So, Left-wingers (Dems, et al) are apologists for 'Islamofascists' (despite terrorists, by definition of the Bush admin, not being able to be legitimately labled as fascists - but that's another question), and as such supporters of Islam. Yet, at the same time, Lefties are filled with ranks of Jews and Jew-lovers (isn't the 'liberal' media controlled by Jews?). So we simultaneously support two religious groups that are completely at odds with each other? And, if the religious fundies are to be believed, Lefties are godless atheists who are going to burn in hell anyway.
How the hell do Lefties pull off this amazing trick of concurrent religious support and atheism? I'd love to hear a rational answer.

Chris - all you need to do is spend 10 minutes trawling around this site to come up with dozens of examples to back up my contention...never mind the right-wing blogosphere.

Sara I think you rather missed the point. I'm actually pointing out the contradictory characterizations of the Left by the right. I don't deny there are contradictory stances taken by the Left too, but that's not the question I asked. As such, you failed to answer the question. Maybe you have a future in politics :-)

Sara - I quite specifically asked a question, it being: "How the hell do Lefties pull off this amazing trick of concurrent religious support and atheism?". Either you're pulling the typical right-winger tactic of providing an answer to a question that wasn't actually asked, or you're unable to understand the grammatical construct that is a question. Additionally, I am baffled by how you can state that the question I posed is a result of a liberal fantasy, when it is the right wingers that are consistently accusing liberals of the contradictory supports of faiths, or lack thereof in the case of atheism. Your obvious inability to read and understand what I wrote leads me to conclude my suggestion that you may have a career in politics needs clarifying - you most certainly have a career as a Republican politician, as you exhibit the same word blindness.

Actually I don't think it is really about religion. I think that it is all about money. If the right sees a way to make money they will support any side or means that puts more money in their pocket. Ideologies that can be used in a divisive way as a wedge that are convenient to them will be utilized....there is no rhyme or reason...it is all calculated and tested in the media with trial balloons etc. If you think about it their main constituencies they are evangelical Christains, blue collar folks who are alienated from progressive and diverse groups and, big business. If there is a scapegoat they will use it to advance their means. For instance the anti Islamic (and all non Christian beliefs incl. secular humanism) wedge plays well with the Christains, the anti gay, jewish, gun control and minority wedge plays well with the blue collar average americans, and anything to do with war profiteering plays well with the big business consticuiency.
The actual wedge is not the issue it is how it can be use to divide and scare the ignorant that don't see the bigger picture. They are very successful because fear of what is different and mans natural reaction to attack anything it cant control or understand. BTW....the republicans have controlled the executive branch for over 60 years......Ever since the military industrial complex was born after WW2.....The thing that has changed lately is that they controlled congress basically because they use successfully have learned to use morality to divide and scare people after Vietnam and the 60's events took their full course...
Democrats however are more conscintious and make thier decisions from insight and what would benefit the common good of the most people instead of making money themselves. This infuriates republicans because they don't understand this logic. This is also a weak hand in the game of politics because they are not unified with a cause... Until they find common ground and a volice they will be lost in the woods.

Yay Alucard!! Another Right-wing atheist. So I'm not alone. Anyway as Alucard said, the left-wingers just try to rope in anyone that doesn't completely agree with everything the right wing says. Basically to answer your posed question, you guys don't really pull off any amazing trick, it's all an illusion. There are plenty of contradictions within the left side for this specific reason!!
**Oh, I'm so sorry...I felt that you were pretty much just making a statement of your opinion rather than asking an actual question, so I assumed that I was free to make a small statement in relation to yours.** By the way, I think I did answer your question: There is no trick being pulled off, it's an illusion that the left tries to create.

I think this is too broad of a question. I don't think you can directly link a whole lot of "lefties" to statements of support for an Islamic terrorist group. It may seem that way but I think the reality is that they're actually trying to make a case against the current office, rather than for Islam. You will also get "right wingers" who seem to back, self serving, and nationalistic purposes. But aren't they mostly Christians? What's up with that? I'm a Christian and I know I don't agree with all the political agendas going on. The reality is the difference between extremes. Either you're extremely behind your faith, or you're not. And MOST people who are extremely behind a faith are labelled as conservatives because they actually believe. Those who are more liberal about their faith tend to not be so convinced and therefore won't stand behind it as much as it would seem that they should. Hope that makes sense.

I'm an Atheist and a right winger. However, I understand their apologetics, and in some sense, they are correct. Problem with them is that they just try to sell to all that those don't agree with the right, so they become extreme stupid apologists. Basically left wing democrats cite, and do so correctly, that the Jews are making settlements in palestinian lands, and these settlements cause many of the riots happening in Israel. I believe in that aspect they are correct. Their problem is that they have become wannabe pacifists that want to "talk to" the islamist, but they fail to see that talking works. In a war setting, they think that all human rights should be protected to them, but they don't account for all the atrocities done to us. Funny how the islamics would want them to be dead soon for their abortions, pornography, etc. and yet support them. It is really sad an contradictory.

Well done English dude.
I consider myself a liberal and I'm a registered Dem, but I still think that politicians and the people that get caught up in it all are just a bunch of monkeys slinging poop at each other like in the zoo.

because the Democratic party's stance is one of tolerance for almost all worldviews and religions. "Everything is okay, as long as no one gets hurt. (and if someone does get hurt, we'll sigh and look the other way)"
Anyway, you sound like you're wound a bit too tightly. Calm down.
