well thats a tough one, cat door is best solution then it wont matter, but if you want to take the time put litter box in the house and once your kitty gets use to it move it outside just dont put it anywhere it can get wet, cause it will do funky things... you could also try not feeding or watering your cat after 5 or 6 at night let her go out for a while befor you go to bed then as soon as you wake up put her out, and watch her when she starts looking for a place in the house put her out then praise her for pottying outside, and cats train better with treats than anything

You need to try to find a more humane home for this sweet creature. Would you want someone to train YOU to go sleep OUTSIDE IN WINTER?! And what I said doesn't mean taking him to a shelter where he will be killed if not adopted in three days either. If you can put out an ad to see if someone will adopt him, put up pictures of him all over the neighborhood with cute captions. There are other people who will be able to let him stay inside. Also there are many no kill shelters that will never put him to sleep even if he doesn't find a home and they will take care of him even in winter. Also I'm sorry to say this but I have a special place in my heart for people who are loving towards animals and your Dad sounds like a jerk who doesn't care if this innocent creature freezes to death! Ugh.

You are probably not going to be able to train him at this point, and if he is going in your closet, then he is trying to tell you something. If your dad doesn't like the litter box, tell him that you will keep it in your room--your closet seems like a good spot. And get the hardening litter, and scoop it out every day, so that it keeps the odor under control. Your dad won't even know it is there, if you keep it clean for kitty.

Put a litter box in the closet. Take care of it yourself.
Get a cat door.

Tell your father that, unless he wants to clean up the cat crap, you're getting a litter box. And installing a cat door isn't a bad idea either.

They will go OK. Just put the litter box in a sheltered area and put them outside two or three times per day.

Lots of luck. In my experience, people don't train cats. Cats train people. Get your dad to help you to put together an outdoor shelter for your kitty. It's called compromise.

Perhaps every once in a while, take him outside to a soft patch in the garden and supervise him until he goes about his buisness, perhaps a little bit like training a dog to go - maybe giving him a treat after he goes.
