-My first VHS/VCR was an RCA. It was HUGE and was able to support my TV at the time (which was 19").
-The cost of the VCR was $1,249.95
-I bought it at a store called SaveMart (they've since gone out of business or were bought by another company, not sure).
-The first movie/video cassette I played on it was "Animal House" with John Belushi.
-All this led to my first subscription to Playero Video Club (cost $150.00 per year), no Blockbuster at the time.
-I bought this thing in the year 1985.
*** I can't believe I remember all this!! ***

I remember very well, it was 1984, an Emerson that we paid $1,500 for, VHS, not Beta, and the "remote control" had a 25 foot cord! LOL My how times have changed! (when we got home, my husband took it out of the box, sat everything on top of the television and told ME to hook it up, that proved helpful, I'm the only woman I know who can program a VCR, DVD player (including the clocks) and learn to use a computer WITHOUT looking at any books or asking for help. TY Mark, you taught me well)

first vcr we got was in about 1983, the "remote" had a wire that ran from the vcr to the remote itself, a little door popped up on the top for the cassette & i had to rent videos from the department store we bought the vcr at because there were no blockbusters (first movie i ever rented btw was Friday the 13th...i was 12)

It was in the 80's. There was no remote. Just a pause thing that was attached by a cord. Cost over $800 & was a Hitachi.

I never bought one.
But we did get one for a present in 1992. It was a Toshiba.
We still have it, we still have it connected, and it still works (we are on our third DVD player/recorder) - although: (a) it doesn't get much use anymore; and (b) if you shake the remote it sounds like a rattle.
