I've gotten two expensive cellphones robbed before. The first time, I filed a report, and it took them forever to get me a code so that I could file for a replacement (same phone, have to pay $100 dollars for the replacement, which isn't bad as having to buy it full price). Sixteen days after I got my replacement (about a month and three weeks), I was robbed again, only in the day time.

When I went to my violin lesson a few days after the first time I got robbed, my violin teacher told me it's always best to keep 20 or 30 dollars. It's better having something to give rather than being hurt or killed for having nothing. I thought that was stupid, but he's right. Something that can be replaced with money, or your life. Of course, I'm really paranoid now, I used to be carefree, but when I'm out, I still have an expensive phone and an iPod, so whenever I go out I try to hide my things, and keep my money in my pocket, and not in my purse.

I even have an expensive handbag and I always have the logo facing my side so that no one (unless they have the bag or have seen it before) knows what brand it is.

TRY TO HIDE EVERYTHING EXPENSIVE!!! Also, it's natural to stay away from suspicious people, I always try to stay away from the projects and those types of ghettos, also if I ever find myself in a crowded area, I try to keep away from suspicious looking people (no, not Black people, that's completely wrong, I stay away from those "thug" and "gangster" looking guys).

Thanks to my experiences, I'm even afraid to hangout when it's dark. When I get off the bus and start walking home, although my neighborhood is relatively safe, the first time I got robbed was in my area, and I'm still paranoid even when I'm right around the corner to my house.

Don't be paranoid like me, it's not good for your health, but do stay away from suspicious looking people (they aren't always "gangsters") and don't flaunt anything expensive, just don't flaunt anything at all. Most important of all, DON'T TALK TO STRANGERS! EVER! Unless they're little kids whom are lost or looking for their parents, but even so, be careful!!!!

The US is a very dangerous place. I have been robbed here multiple times (many years apart and in very different cities). I have been robbed also in Paris, France (I travel with "dummy" wallet- expired IDs and Credit Cards with small amount of cash- this dummy wallet was stolen in Paris). I have never been robbed in the Philippines (have same dummy wallet there for five trips now). I really think people who run into trouble in the Philippines just are in the wrong place at the wrong time- bad luck. There are also others who go to bars and bad areas at night and are just asking for trouble- in my opinion. The only time I ever had trouble in Mexico was when I was bar hopping with friends- yes- looking for trouble. When in the Philippines I am usually in rural areas surrounded by friends and family, so it is just not possible to find trouble there. When in Manila I am usually alone on the streets only in the morning doing shopping or going to morning Mass, so unlikely I will run into trouble there also. If you take a few precautions, you really can minimize the likelihood you will run into trouble. Worldwide, night time and seedy areas are breeding grounds for crime. Avoid both and you will be relatively safe.

I grew up in Cleveland and I have been robbed a dozen times or more. Luckily I have never been shot.

Twice in my life I drew my pistol and twice I believe it saved my life. I didn't have to fire it, just point it.

Old saying: I'd rather have the good guys catch me with it than the bad guys catch me without it.

Yep, always mind your bling when crusing through the ghettos of West Philadelphia. or better yet don't go there in the first place.
