Islam is about 600 years newer than Christianity. 600 years ago Christians were burning witches and non-believers. As a result western countries realized the danger in combining church and state. Islam hasn't learned that lesson yet.

I think religions should be judged by the actions of their members, more than by whatever beliefs they claim to follow. I meet very few Muslims, so my opinions are (probably very unfairly) based on what I see on TV or read in newspapers and magazines.
I think that in the US we make (at least) two mistakes in our views of non-Western countries/cultures/religions:
(1) We confuse technology with civilization/culture/morality.
(2) We accept stories in the news as being accurate, even though we complain when others think we're all cowboys or serial killers, based on what they see on TV.
From what I've read, in the past many Islamic countries were more "civilized" than most Christan countries of their time. So, I have trouble believing Islam is inherently bad.

As a Muslim I would like to tell my non-Muslim friends to read the history well to learn about the beginning of this religion and how it changed the Arabs from fighting nomads to a strong civilized nation..and to learn how the Muslims treated the non-Muslim citizens in the countries they conquered..as an example in my country Egypt:Muslims conquered Egypt after defeating the Romans and Egyptians remained christians for centuries and turned to Islam gradually with their own will without pressure or force..Muslims became majority in Egypt after 800 years from its conquer by Muslims..while in Spain after the Muslims where defeated the christians burned and killed all the Muslims remaining and those who wanted to live were forced to change to christianity.
Judging Islam from actions of small radical group forming a very small percentage from the huge Islamic world is not fair..as if we say Americans are all criminals because the US is the only country used nuclear weapons against civilians..It's called generalization and stereotyping...Read the Qur'an"with explanation please because many verses can be misunderstood if you don't no the circumstances of their revealing" and read the history if you want to judge Islam.

If you look at "religion" and their evolution e.g. catholicism and its derivatives over time: protestants, methodists etc you will come to the conclusion that religion as we understand it, is man made. This holds through for Buddhism, muslims, hindus. We cannot create worms yet we create God by the buckloads. That does not mean that God does not exist: it is just that I do not have the answer. As a result of this ignorance, we as humans tend to interpret everything to suit ourselves based on our particular gripe at a point in time. In poor countries, the Gods tend to be wealth related, bringing food to the table etc. In war torn countries Gods are invoked to punish th "enemy" and often it is just those who do not agree with us. It is not Islam, Christianity or whatever. The problem lies with the followers!

I don't know alot about the Islam religion. But, I believe that any religion that does not use the Holy Bible as their authority or believes that Jesus Christ was a prophet (and not God's Son, the Saviour of the world) is wrong. But, just like I think they are wrong, they think I am wrong. I can agree to disagree.
That's my opinion anyway.

It came along about 700 years after Christianity, and I don't think much of a religion that has people blow themselves up killing their own kind as well as what they call infidels. Counter-productive.
And please don't tell me they are kind, loving and tolerant - the current hubbub over the Pope proves that is not the case. First they demand an apology, which he finally give and then they say that isn't good enough - that he is not sorry enough.

Depends on the individual. Some is fairly harmless but if it achieves total power as in Iran it is lethal to normal life. But this is true of all religion

i think its a bunch of nonsense , believing what a pedophile says and there is so many things about that religion that theres no way they can say they are a religion of peace, and the only reason they are the fastest growing religion is because they trick ppl into it and threaten to kill them if they try to leave it , same as when they are born into it and then claim its all in the name of allah
