There are a few ways to disinfect it. Hold it in boiling water, of course with tongues or a strainer not your fingers. For a less direct approach boil water in a tea kettle and when the steam starts coming out, again hold the jewelry in the steam for a minute or longer with tongues. You could even let it sit in rubbing alcohol for awhile. For a super clean piece of bling I would use all three methods combined.

Soft Soap...antibacterial. I clean all my barbells with it, let it set in warm soapy water for a minute or two...then put it in your hand with some soap and rub it around. Rinse with warm water...or if you can handle it...hot water. Let it dry on a lint free towel.

2 teaspoons of natural seasalt in a cup of luke warm water, good for rinsing the newly pierced are too.

use a bottle cap large enough to cover the item, fill the cap with it in, with peroxide. let it sit a min, then take out and dry off, and there you are. alcohol is also a good way, same method.

rubbing alcohol, soak it 20 minutes, then scrub with soap and water - or vice versa. Can't beat alcohol.
