An affidavit is simply a written, sworn notarized statement. A lawyer can prepare one for you. Otherwise, you can have your friends type up a statement, and then sign it in the presence of a notary public. On the top of the document, you can just write "Affidavit."

An affidavit is a statement written and sworn to under penalty of perjury.

You really don't need an attorney for them although that would be the easiest route to take. If not, just have your friends write their names, how long they have known you and your wife (if they knew you before your wife, that would be good to mention as well). Then have them write what they have seen by ways of interaction with each other and conversations they have had with you about her.

Make sure they don't sugar coat it. Sometimes a disagreement is more indicative of a healthy marriage than all sugar sweetness. When they finish, you need to find out what the language in your state for the penalty of perjury statement at the end (to the effect that they swear the statement above is true under penalty of perjury) and have it notarized - most notaries know the perjury language requirement for their states.

Good Luck!

Duoak is right; I issue immigrant visas and will accept a sworn affidavit such as she describes. The precise format is not important, but it must be sworn and notarized.
