I have a Jack Russell Terrier, six years old. After applying Revolution, he started losing control of the use of his legs, front legs more so over the back. Seems dizzy, unbalanced, almost drunk-like. Have taken him to his vet, they say Revolution could not be the cause, but after running numerous tests, could not find a cause.

I would get a second opinion. Dogs can have allergic reactions similar to humans. I hope your dog feels better soon!

Has anyone had a pet that had adverse side effects from Revolution? .. Yes... wow.....My little dog(5 years of age) is currently having problems walking (slow)- in pain, you touch her she cried...cannot jump up on her favorite chair and I notice a reduction in her cognitive abilities and lethargic..once I used the first of three vials (Revolution) spread out over weeks to administer as prescribed by my vet for suspected mange. I notice after the first vial my dog seemed tired lacked energy, then she could not jump up, then to touch her she cried..I am horrified. My Q is , if I give my Dog a gentle bath - will that reduced the concentration of the Revolution on her skin and system to help reduce her symptoms ? I am a University educated person and trust me - there is a direct correlation here between when I started using Revolution and my dogs current poor medical state. I will have to call my vet today to address this crisis.

Never say never when it comes to an animal. They have different reactions and allergies, just like people. Revolution's base chemical is a derivative of the ivermectin family, which can be very toxic to any animal, and fatal to those who have other conditions, such as heart worms.

If your vet says Revolution couldn't have done this, get rid of him pronto. Ivermectin is supposed to be dispensed only by vets, and only after doing a tests on the animal to see if it has heartworms. Your vet doesn't know this?????

Too many web sites recommend ivermectin like candy and feed stores sell it over the counter, and few bother to point out the problems it can cause. Most manufacturers, however, put a ton of warnings on the inner label to avoid litigation.

As an example of the individual reactions possible to drugs, I used good old Advantage (non-Ivermectin) on a mama dog rescued from the woods and she began having seizures within 24 hours. She'd never had any problems before. I didn't realize it was the Advantage and dosed her again the next month. Same thing: she'd lower her head like she had a terrific headache and become disoriented and collapse. I never used it again on her, and she hasn't had any problems since.

Wash him thoroughly, get as much of the residue off him as possible, and take your little guy to another vet right away.

God, sorry you made that mistake. Revolution and all the others are completely chemical and highly toxic. If you add some garlic (powdered, crushed, fresh) to his food, it may have some effect. Yes, all of the side-effects, you got. Because it has gone through the skin, or perhaps he was able to lick some, the chemical has gone in to his bloodstream. I am not surprised the vet could not find a cause, they are the ones pushing these drugs. But to really get away from the flea problem, move to Canberra. It is simply too cold down there. Luck

Yes, my neighbors dog started having seizures after they used Revolution as well. Their dog never fully recovered and now has to take phenobarbitol to control the seizures.
Here is an article about some other people who have had problems with Revolution as well. Best wishes for you and your dog!

Yes, I have seen Revolution reactions, such as seizures, in pets numerous times. I'm a vet tech and the vets that I work for REFUSE to use Revolution for that reason. We advise all of our clients not to use it. I would definitely find another vet.
I'm sorry for you and your dog! Good luck, I hope he gets better.

I have worked in a clinic for years and have never seen a reaction to Revolution other than a scabby area forming on the area of application. Is it possible that he just hated the application so much that he started acting strangely? I have seen animals flip out a little b/c of the liquid going on the skin. Selamectin, which is the active ingredient in Revolution, is in the avermectin class of drugs which has been known to cause seizures in large overdoses. LARGE overdoses - so you're probably ok as long as you used the correct size tube.

yes it could. vets are in the business of selling meds. they will back the meds over all else. even over the individual pet . my toy poodle lost all the hair down the back(where you are told to put those flea meds.) when she was about 6 it started. i ask the vet they said i havn't been told about that!as a possible side effect. so i used another season , which i only apply it once a season so it made her permanently bald all the way down her back. nothing else went there.

OH!! Im so sorry for you & your pooch!!! Please dotn use Revolution & get a 2nd opinion from a different vet!! My Mom works for a vet & she refuses to use Revolution AT ALL!!! In fact when it comes to flea/tick control being as all of those products are chemicals she suggests to use the one that only takes care of waht you NEED! such as my pug never goes in fields or woods & only goes outside to potty & for walks & to the dog park so we only use Advantage because she is in no real danger of ticks only fleas....hence less chemicals less chance of a reaction! Please get you r pooch to a different vet & QUIT the revolution ASAP!!! hope your little guy gtes back to feeling great & I pray there are no permanent side affects, if there are Id look into a lawsuit possibly
