my mother is extremely picky at whatever she wants, or has, or gets. I have bought her things in the past just to find out that she has returned it because i was a shade to light in the color or what not. Does any one have any suggestions on a gift that is good for all and there is no chance for my mother to be too picky? i mean there are things that she'll love no matter what but i want to get her something original and special but i'm afraid she'll just take it back... any suggestions?

You could take childhood photos and create a slide show or better yet a short movie where you can tell her your memories about those pictures. My daughter did this for me last year and it is priceless!!!

Get her a gift certificate at her favorite store. You can never go wrong with that. Or have you ever thought about giving her a spa day, trust me she will love it. Go to Macy's or what ever is in your home town, get a gift certificate for your mom to enjoy a day to relax with a massage, facial, manicure, & pedicure. She will still be thanking you next year.

I'm a mother that is very pickey too. I always love getting gift certificates for manicures or pedicures. This is a way of getting pampered and I love it. Good luck.

$$$$ CASH $$$$
I have a sister in-law that is the exact same way. She is so picky about what I give her. So instead of always giving her gifts just for her to give them away, I will now give her money for how much I would've spent on a gift. :-)

Try to think if she has mentioned that she is trying to get around to buying a certain item for herself and surprize her with it. Take her window shopping and see what really entices her. Then take her home and run out and buy it and wrap it up. Or take her out for a really nice lunch or dinner and ask the manager to prepare a simple cake for her and serve it to her in front of everyone. She will never forget that birthday.

Anything personal or hand made by you is always the best-- such as a picture of you in a frame with a message on, perhaps the side telling her you love her. Or, hand made and personal jewelry? Charm necklace or bracelet --anything that may remind of her of you (or your family).

Second best: momentos from gift shops. Even plants, if she's into them.

I had a mother-in-law like that. i just started giving her gift cards, she loved to shop but never liked anything anyone bought. Just gift card it and let her do the shopping.

how about a gift certificate for a massage (so she can tell the massage therapist what to do different, lol) or give her a gift that she has given you; if she thought you'd want it it might mean that she kinda wants one too. that worked when my best friend & i first started being close, she got me pajamas once and i couln't figure out to get her a few years later, so i got her pajamas and she just raved about how much she love it.....might work for you, too! :)

Gift card.. Lottery ticktets, its fun to play and she can keep the winnings if she gets any..Or go out shopping with her and pay close attention to what she looks at. What she seems to like, or comment about.. Then go back another day and buy it..
