Let me first say that this question is NOT about abortion. It is about BIRTH CONTROL! If you flame me for your assumptions about my abortion views, which you don't know about, then you obviously won't get ten points!

Birth Control pills work by preventing the FERTILIZED EGG from implanting on the uterus wall, which is called CONCEPTION.

Though it's not about abortion, you might be able to read some stem-cell implications into it. I'm not familiar if stem cells can be harvested before conception or not.

=======

No, Birth Control pills work by altering the hormones in a woman's body and preventing an egg from being released in the first place, so conception never occurs.

The IUD, on the other hand, prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus, similar to the "morning-after pill".

But I don't see a huge hue and cry about IUDs.

Stem cells can't be harvested before conception - they don't exist until after conception. Before conception, the egg and sperm each only have half the complement of chromosomes necessary.

It seems that you answered you own question.

"Birth Control pills work by preventing the FERTILIZED EGG from implanting on the uterus wall, which is called CONCEPTION."

If there was never CONCEPTION, there is no way that birth control pills can be considered EVIL.

Although... we're just talking semantics here.

If you believe that life begins at conception, then birth control pills are likely to make you guilty of wanton manslaughter.

It's funny that the anti-abortion-rights crowd doesn't harp on birth control pills. The 'morning after' pill is exactly the same thing.

There are people who consider certain forms of birth control evil for the very reason that you give. I think it is more of an evil to indiscriminately pop out children once a year, regardless of whether or not you can feed, clothe and shelter them.

Note: I just read Pillowbiter's answer. If he doesn't deserve the 10 points, no one does. I'm still cracking up.

From a non-religious perspective, birth control pills are wonderful for women -- it helps regulate our period, lessens the duration of the period, and helps ease cramps, which are extremely painful!!

Even from a religious viewpoint, I don't think it could be seen as evil since it is not "killing" any living creature.

But I guess for people who believe that intercourse should only be practiced for the purpose of creating a baby, then any form of contraception would be frowned upon.

Um...birth control pills prevent ovulation, not a fertilized egg from implanting. That's the whole point.
And, yes, I believe that IUDs and other methods that prevent a fertilized egg from implanting are forms of abortion.

I think not evil, but they sure make some people cranky and crampy and can cause serious problems. Personally I question what God would feel about them too, so I don't consider them. I believe in abstinence. But that is my choice for myself. I'm not saying anything about anyone's choices. I have problems deciding what is considered abortion methods,,,its a fine line to me.

Birth control (and any artificial method of it) is not permitted within the Catholic Church. Birth control does its job, but the primary purpose of intercourse is to conceive. By interrupting that natural process, birth control is keeping a life from being formed which is wrong.

Evil might only be in the eye of the beholder. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.
