He probably still has sores. My female was experiencing Flea Allergy Dermatitis (it's when they're allergic to the flea saliva)....so even now, after putting her on Frontline Plus and killing all the fleas, she's still itching the sores. Once they heal, she'll be ok. I'm guessing your cat will be, too.

Don't use ANYTHING by Hartz. And DON'T give your cat garlic. I used to think it was OK, too, but it's not.

Onions, Garlic, & Related Root Vegetables

Onions contain a substance (N-propyl disulphide) which destroys red blood cells in the cat, causing a form of anemia called Heinz body anemia. Garlic contains a similar substance in a lesser amount.

(And your cat won't become reinfested if he's been put on a preventive like Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution.)

Your not supposed to apply the flea control to dogs or cats until twenty four to fourty eight hours after a bath, or else the flea control wont work. The best treatment is giving your pet a capstar pill, that will kill all fleas within about 30 mins and will last for twenty four hours, you can also apply the flea treatment (frontline, advantage) at the same time you give the capstar. To get fleas and flea eggs out of your carpet and furniture, you should go to the pet store and buy a good home flea killer.
The black spots that come off your cat is called flea dirt, thats the poop of the fleas. Your cat has to be at least 6 weeks old in order to use the flea control products. Also hartz flea control does not work and has caused death in cats before, it may be cheaper, but basically you get what you pay for. Good Luck.

How long after the bath did you put on the flea drops? You have to wait two to three days before and after a bath to put it on. Also if your cat had a bad infestation it could take a while to completely kill all the fleas and eggs. You might want to consider getting a capstar pill. It's only like $5 at you vet and it will kill every flea on the animal for 24 hours. It will help to give your flea prevention a good starter boost.

Could be FAD or flea allergy dermatitis. Even after the fleas are gone, the reaction they caused by biting the skin can linger. If you can't afford another vet bill, you can try an aloe and oatmeal bath to try to soothe the skin. The black stuff is called "Flea Dirt", but really it's flea poop! It's the waste that the fleas leave on your animal. It's either left over from the last infestation of fleas, or you still actually have the flea problem.

Black stuff is flea blood. When you had your cat bathed at the vet, they should have gotten all that off.
Flea drops works after the flea bites them. Then the flea dies.
Have you treat the area your cat lives in. This is a must toooo. You must kill the fleas & the lava.
Next time, try looking in your phone book for a Grooming shop in your area. They might be cheaper.

I would take the cat back to the vet. It may have an allergic reaction. Also keep in mind it could be mental. The cat could be losing its hair from all the scratching which it has gotten into the habit of doing now because of the fleas. A lot of times tho, it's an allergic reaction. I would just take it to the vet. I had a cat with hyperthyroidism and she did not lose her fur or scratch excessively.

The black stuff would be blood from flea bites and should mostly have gone from the bath. Don't bathe him again or you will lose the effect of the flea treatment.

Fleas inject histamines under the skin when they bite, like mosquitos. I will be itching for a week after a mosquitos bite so it may make him scratch for a while even after the fleas are gone.

He could have dry skin or the bite itself is still bothering him. Some cats are alergic to flea bites. Also, fleas can still be in your bedding, carpet, stuffed animals, furniture, etc. Make sure you got rid of the fleas in your house or they will still be on your cat. Add a little bit of garlic powder in his food each day. Fleas hate garlic and it keeps the fleas off.
