My mother wants to homeschool me 17 year old sister due to the fact that the school she attends now is not very cooperative with her illnesses and school has become too much of a stress. I was wondering if there are any programs out there that will give grants or something to help pay tuitions due to the fact that homeschooling is very expensive. PLEASE HELP!! We live in Nebraska so it is considered an exempt school also. Any information would be appreciated

Homeschooling doesn't have to be expensive. You can get a very decent education using a dictionary, a set of encyclopedia and a public library. You will also need a math text and answer key. Math, writing and reading is the base of all education.

We use the Robinson Curriculum. It is a one-time cost of $195. It is a set of 22 cd's that teaches a student to learn from kindergarten through 12th grade and some college stuff too. The only other things to buy are a math text and answer key, a good printer, paper and pencils.

I'm homeschooled, I've been homeschooled for nearly 7 years now. I'm a senior in High School and wished I could have went to public high school to make more friends, but home schooling is a lot more.... better for my life. my dad's a preacher, so him and my mom are always on the road,so I can do school whenever I want, I can get up whenever I want and if I want a job, I can get a full time job and still have time for school. Home schooling isn't that expensive, the only thing that cost's is buying the books, but you can find used books from other home schoolers on Ebay or home schooling sites. That's the only thing I can help you with, the other stuff I don't know much about... sorry I couldn't help anymore. GOOD LUCK!

Homeschooling doesn't have to be expensive. I spent about $100 last year on my 2 teenage daughters. It just depends on how much time your mom has to prepare-and a high speed internet connection is a great plus. There's tons of stuff free online. And used books from ebay and other places are good too. Then there's the library.

I know the $100 I spent last year was FAR less than I would have spent on dances and silly stuff at school.

I'm not sure about your state, but I would check out these 2 websites
www.hslda.org
www.nheri.org

In our state, you can homeschool THROUGH the public charter schools and they give you a free computer and all your materials free because it's through the public schools and you are assigned a teacher you can call and ask questions and stuff. I don't use the program but I've heard it has really helped a lot of people. We live in Colorado.
Good luck and keep looking! There is a lot of information out there for you.

Some states allow you to use surplus textbooks from the school district and the only cost is a deposit that is refunded when you bring the books back, but it does vary a lot from state to state. Learn as much as you can about your state's homeschooling law, and look in to support groups in your area (you should be able to find a lot on the web)

Good luck!

Maybe try a cyber charter school. They are considered public schools and they give you all your books for free. some even give you computers and printers and reimburse you for Internet costs. Just do a simple search cyber charter schools and put in your city or state like Philadelphia cyber charter schools.
a good one is http://www.connectionsacademy.com
with this you get the benefits of homeschooling and of a public school right from your own home. hope this helps

check the laws for your state in my state the schools are required to give me any materials they are using in the school for my kids.
Also see if there is a book bank in your area
check online for any deals on books a good site for used curriculum is http://www.academicbookservices.com

Try getting into a homebound program. Public School Districts should have them for students physically/mentally unable to attend class.

Your mother should get in touch with the local homeschooling group, if you have one. Some groups will help with curriculum, including books, etc.
