Any place can be a wonderful home if you make it that way, but word of the wise here and I speak from experience.
I moved from town because it was not my life and my place of residency.
I started out by looking at what I need and then where to move to too get it and so my decision to re-locaate was a beauty and I am content now!

Great environment and beautiful area.
If you have children you may want to look into the schools. All that is on the news lately is how the schools are in crisis.

Vancouver has great schools and no complaints but if you work in Portland and live in Vancouver WA you pay twice as much taxes- OR state taxes and WA sales tax. There are probably good schools in Portland but be careful where you move to and do some research first.
Portland has a bigger city life and more culture- Vancouver is more layed back.
Otherwise everything else is pretty much the same.

Both cities are about the same. Portland is larger than Vancouver but have about the same culture and mix of people.

I think Portland, Oregon would be a wonderful place to live. I have made several trips there and each time didn't want to leave.

I like it there. I think it is a good town to raise a family, that is where my grandpa was raised and we go there a lot and I really like it.
