Eating something crunchy and wonderful before hand.
Then as soon as you get them on, eat before they start to hurt.
Get a bunch of gatorade pudding jello and applesauce in to the house for the first 3-5 days of discomfort.
And pick out some really pretty band colors.

You should get a special toothbrush for braces if your orthodontist doesn't give you one. You will want to eat soft food initially because they will hurt in the beginning and hurt again every time you get them adjusted. It's not super painful, but cutting the crust off of bread, not eating the crust on pizza, staying away from nuts, hard food will help. Also, sticky food like caramels, chewing gum, etc. will be a no-no because it can break them. You will look really nice after you complete the treatment. I wore braces for 2 years, and this was back in the '80s when they didn't have the nice invisible ones they have now. I had the total railroad tracks in the mouth, but I'm sure yours will look much nicer even while you are wearing them. There also is a special wax you can put on them if they poke your mouth. It helps a lot!

It'll be annoying, I know. Not fun for the wearer. But you know what, there will be a lot of guys who will perk up at the sight of braces. They are really cute on girls, especially when on plain ones because it really makes them shine. I fell in love with a friend of mine when she had braces, she lost them and I still love her, so don't worry that any attention you get for them will be gone after they are.
I find that girls with braces tend to be cuter than those without, sometimes. Sometimes they don't, but often they do. If you don't like the fact you're getting braces, don't worry they'll come off eventually anyways.
At least it isn't headgear, right?

it has been almost one year since i got mine off. i wore them for three years. getting your braces on can be scary and painful! your teeth will moving all the time and it does feel sore. be careful on the types of things you eat because certain foods can harm the braces (your ortho will tell you more). all in all my experience with braces was great! my teeth are gorgeous (see my 360 page) and i am glad i had the opportunity to wear them. make sure you take care of them and you too will have a gorgeous smile when it is all over!!

I had braces. I hated them. I thought they were so cool up until I had them for about a month.
I would go for the clear if your orthodontist offers them because after awhile you get sick of the silver. Clear looks less noticeable. Also, make sure you were your rubber bands and do exactly what s/he tells you. If you don't do things right, they'll have to stay on longer, which really stinks!
Good luck!

I have braces. Believe me, it wont hurt at first, but it will after a while. Just move your mouth to get rid of tension. You might want to buy a baby teething ring to move your teeth on. Yes, it will be painful but in the long run, it will help.

nope! all i can say is that having braces was like the best thing that ever happend to me! im so happy i was fortunate enough to get them! not only did they straighten my teeth, but they gave me a lifelong ambition to become an orthodontist. i am currently working on my pre-dental degree and cant wait to give to people the thing i am most happy to have recieved! prep for pain i guess!

The braces will feel "weird" at first, but over time you will become used to them. So much so, that your teeth will feel "weird" when they're taken off later on.

No, don't worry.... my first visit and even later visits were easy. Brush your teeth right before you go to stay on your doctor's good side ... don't want bad breath while they're in your mouth!
Stay positive! AND Smile! Show them off!!
