Sometimes too-tight ponytails can cause headaches, but long hair by itself won't.

No its not a myth. I have seriously thick hair. When I was five my hair was past my butt and I was having serious migraine headaches. They tested me left and right and nothing came up as to why I would be having these headaches. Finally my mom wondered if it was b/c of my hair. (She is a hairdresser-with years of experience and she says-and my current stylist also confirms that my hair is equal to 5 heads of normal hair.-Anyway_ We cut my hair and the headaches went away. Then again in highschool I let my hair get that long again...once again I cut it and the headaches were gone. Yes Long Thick hair can cause headaches

A woman I know who had long hair for a long time said she had to take baths because if she showered, it made her head go backwards with all the weight. She said it was like this so long she got used to it & when she finally cut it she had no idea how many headaches she actually used to have and didn't even notice, it happened so often. So I guess it does cause headaches for some.

My sister in law had beautiful waist length, VERY thick hair. She had severe migrains alot, worse when it was pulled up. She cut her hair just below shoulder length and the headaches stopped.
I, on the other hand, have long thin hair that has to be almost to my waist when I start getting headaches. I cut a little off, headaches go away.
It may depend on the person also. Some people have more sensitive scalps than others.

Depends on how long and thick your hair is. Putting up will certainly contribute to the headache, especially if it is tight. If you are suffering unexplained headaches, and you've cut your hair, and the headaches don't go away, see a doctor, you might have something medically wrong. Each person is different, some can tolerate long hair while others can't.

It is true. Some long hair can cause headaches. Thick long hair can be very heavy and can pull on the neck - it's like hanging a 5lb weight off the back of your head all day... try it!
However, if the woman wants to cut her hair... it's her right. You're not the one that has to deal with it everyday!

Okay, having long hair does not cause headaches if it is left hanging loose.
But if you put it in a high pony tail or in a fancy high style for a long period then it may cause headaches, or cause discomfort when you untied it, especially if you have thick long hair.
I don't think it's an excuse to get a hair cut. You either cut it or you don't depending if you want dramatic change in your hair style or not.

yes! if you have a lot of thick hair, you can get headaches from it when it's long. When mine's long, I get headaches and cut a few inches off. It's just too much weight pulling down on my head, I think. It causes a lot of pressure.

I used to get headaches when I had hair down to my a*se. I think it's from the weight of the hair mainly. Long hair can also affect your posture I think, which in turn can cause headaches.

i have very very thick heavy hair. when i had it mid way down my back, i would often wear it up in a bun. i would get headaches because my hair was so heavy piled up on my head. so i guess this could be a true statement that hair can cause headaches.

It is true. I keep my hair cut short because it is so thick it gives me major headaches even if it is only to my shoulders. I am in the process of letting it grow back out now, I am going to try layering it good to see if that takes enough weight off to help.
