It's been established that, in Noah's time, the people of the world were wicked and had falled away from God's Will. God decided that they needed to be punished. But why do it with a huge, global flood? Why didn't he just make all of the evil people go to sleep one night and never wake back up, or something like that?

I'm not asking this to be blasphemous, and no, I'm not an atheist. I just wonder what people have to say about this.

SetfreebyJesus: Good point, but if God did it this way, Noah wouldn't have had to build the ark and round up two of every animal. That's why I was asking. But maybe he felt that Noah and his family had to do that, for some reason.

Good question, I am a believer and have thought about that myself. Who can understand Gods infinite mind? Maybe it serves some symbollic purpose we'll grasp later on.

One, it has only been established by the Bible that people in Noah's time were evil and wicked. Many other mythologies also record a great flood and mention nothing of the sort. As for why a flood, who knows? Why didn't he just make them all disappear? Why didn't he literally destroy the world and start over from scratch if we sucked that bad?
As for burying people...where do you think the bodies went after the water went away? They were still there, and any coronor or cop can tell you a body that has been in the water for 40 days is NASTY. Not to mention disease ridden. Brings up a lot of questions, doesn't it?

We should never question God's plans. And I saw on the Discovery channel one documentary that there once was a real great flood in the world, where a lot of water pressure from underneath the world exploded up to the sky and caused rain and so forth. Have you ever heard about fish fossils in places like deserts in Africa, or in the Grand Cayon and so forth. Trust in the Lord and don't wonder just be amazed in His glory.

I believe he wanted to start over in a way. "Cleanse" everything if you will. Remember even though everyone was destroyed the ones that believed in God were ok they were going to Heaven. The ones that did not went to Hell where they belong. So that it why it is so important to live for God today. I am not afraid of death at all because heaven is going to be wonderful compared to earth. People hold on to the physical world way to much. Let go and let God.

There's some talk that dinosaurs still roamed the earth before the flood. If so thank goodness for it!!

PS If you add up the numbers you will see God waited until Noahs father died one year before the flood. How merciful!

God gave the people the chance to repent but they didn't, so in His infinite wisdom, He decided to rid the world of sinners and begin afresh. However, when the flood ended, He made a promise to never destroy the world again, hence the rainbow. And, He has remained true to His word.

Good question. Answer is that the Noah story is Mythology. Note the cap "M", it means it's a useful myth, meant to teach people to to be good. Check out the Epic of Gilgamesh, it's the original uncorrupted Mesopotamian ark/flood story written in stone 1500 years prior to Genesis.

because he wanted to see if he could convince Noah to build an ark and round up 2 of every animal....

however form watching the crocodile hunter i have learned that many animals sex, cannot be discerned without surgical sexing or by sticking your finger in them and feeling around...
do you really think that Noah ahd time to do all of this, and if not did he just guess...

if that why we have no dragons, unicorns or groffons today, because Noah grabbed 2 male deagons, and 2 female groffons, and a male and a female unicorn that both just happened to be gay?

I don't know. That is something you will have to ask Him once you get to heaven. That is like asking why did He destroy Sodom and Gomorrah the way He did? Or why did He turn Lot's wife into a pillar of salt instead of punishing her another way. Don't know.
