You are on the wrong track. Nowhere in Hindu religion, The Onion is critisized, you are confusing yourself with some other religion.

The problem is most of the people who criticise do not know why they criticise, or how to explain what they know as the reason.
Onion has been looked at traditionally as a negative Pranic (life energy) food, and hence has been discouraged as regular food item, except for survival or medicinal purpose, just as snake venom is a good medicine for some cures like paralysis or so !
Also, large intake of onion induces indulgence in bodily pleasures, which was not the priority of traditional people , who were fortunate to be taught the higher purpose of human birth.
Try taking one ounce of onion juice, and you may require HOSPITALISATION (so do not try please) !
In small quantities, it is good to taste, and if you like it very much take it with other items fried, etc, but if you think it is a good healthy vegetable like all other vegetables, please check up again !

look man in hindu religion things are absol logical.after eating onion ur sleep is not sound and not healty drams.ur mind is no more calm after eating food having onion.moreover in indian climate u dont need it much.and ya last but not the least where u read that in hindu religion it is prohibitted in which book?it is made by our encestors not religion.well non veg food ando also the onions is best suited for people living in colder areas.

i think it is vegitable and 75% hindu eat it. some people not eat it because they knew old religion not new. according to old religion they gave what may be reasson but truth is that to make housewife happy they avoid onion because in cutting onion drops of water ( asu) comes out from eyes.
