There's a few good things. Housing is relatively affordable and the people are generally quite friendly on the outside (if you can look past the pervasive bigotry and ignorance). In the larger cities, there's plenty of ethnic diversity which is a good thing.
But there's a lot of ignorance...as I always tell myself - just because I live amongst it doesn't mean I will become it...

Just like any other state anymore, you find people from everywhere else living in Texas. Also when traveling, chances are you'll run into another Texan. The state is more like six states in one because of its size and cultural differences.
Personally, I enjoy Texas for the beautiful scenery on my commute to work, local BBQ wars in every town - we do not lack for great food - and for a dream job that pays the bills on my reasonably priced home with an environment to safely run my dogs in open spaces.

Only because it's the best state in the U.S. of A. It's never too cold... real big. You can have most any terrain you'd like. Wanna live on the coast? prairie? big city? ranch way out in no where? mountains? canyons? We got it all! Plus we have an awesome flag unlike several other states.. some are just embarrassing.. we have a lot of interesting culture and history. Better than "um.. settlers came over.. and it became a state.." Long horn cattle are cool... yeah. I guess that's all. I'm a Texas girl and will be till I die. Oh!! and you can wear a cowboy hat and be considered cool..

I lived in Nacogdoches, TX for 19 mos.
I really did not enjoy the prejudice that was going on all over that little city!
Whites hate blacks, blacks hate whites!!!! Why can't they all get along?
Wages sucked!
I had to move back to civilization & the 21st century!!! :)

nothing really, and I live here. Well, I guess I do like that it's bigger, and that it's cheaper to live here. Oh, and the weather isn't bad most of the time, and we don't have that many natural disasters..well, I guess TX isn't all that bad it could be worse.

If you ever go a little crazy, they just shoot you, no need for psych docs. Maybe its more humane that way. Not sure.
