Industrial strength velcro or mounting tape. It won't make the plaster crack and it's easy to remove after and both will hold pretty much anything. If you want to hang something really heavy, use silicone (that's how you hang really big mirrors). The item can be removed after by carefully scraping off the silicone.

I use picture hangers - the kind that allows for weight and the holding nail goes through the holder at a slant. After deciding where to hang the picture, place a piece of scotch tape over the area where the nail is to be driven. The tape prevents the nail from doing very little damage.

I use "Tri-R magic nails". They come in different sizes and is a lot of variety in the market. Go to Home Depot or any other hardware store, they will know the local name for it. They come with an adapter that you place the no head nail and once is on the wall you place a plastic head to it. there are others without the adapter that you just nail to the walls and hang.
And what is best, it will make such a small hole if you want to remove it in the future... just do so and no harm will be done to your walls.
Have fun hanging from now on!

Measure first!! Don't get the hole too off center or you are going to need to make another one.
Put a piece of tape on the wall before you put the nail in, it should stop the plaster from cracking.

Put a piece of tape on the wall and use a small nail, put the nail in then remove the tape, if you move the picture just patch the hole with Spackle and paint.

If you drill a small hole in the plaster and insert a nail-hook, that should work so long as the item is not too heavy.
Hope that helps you.

You can buy a Stud Finder, inexspensive, at most hard ware stores. I used one to help me find where the studs are, usually about 16 inches apart ., Start at your door frame and work into your livining room etc. Mark where they are before making nail hoes etc Good Luck Pem
