I've came up one way and am living a different life. I have 2 sets of friends and 2 different lifestyles. How do you figure out who you are when you are living in limbo between the two? I grew up really poor and in the ghetto. Left went to college and now I am back home. I love my new friends and my old but I can't figure out who I am. I can't determine where I fit in the middle of this. I try everyday but instead of making any steps forward I am making steps backward. I am lost and i don't know what to do.

Your dilemma is less severe than you allow yourself to see.. You think well of yourself and apparently you make friends easily. What is wrong with having many friends from different levels? As long as you remain true to yourself and don't falsify yourself, just to fit in. Be yourself on every occasion and perhaps be an influence on someone else's life. There are those whose intent is to become a magnet to draw people to them...then becoming an inspiration to them.. always attempting to uplift others.

When you keep that attitude uppermost in your mind, you will find out quite rapidly, who you really are!

We often have different roles in life, aside from a planned career. Make the most of yours.. You have a defined advantage.. you have good friends to start with.

God knows exactly who you are, and the best way to find out who you are is to find out who He is. The reason I say this, besides the fact that it is the truth, is I've been there and done that.
I was torn for many year between two life styles and because of it, I lived in one or the other by lying about myself and to myself. When I finally turned my life over to God, telling Him that I would be whatever He created me to be and do whatever He has planned for me to do, my life began to change. It didn't happen over night, but the more I get to know God and His will for me, the more I know and accept myself. I now work hard at facing the truth, even when it isn't pleasant. Reality is where the "rubber meets the road" in life. I truly hope you find it for yourself, because God loves you, too, you know.

Hey, I've kinda lived that scenario too. I think the important thing is not to break ties with either group of friends (unless ofcourse they are into illegal activity etc...) and continue to thrive in your friendships and make yourself available to hang out wiht both groups whenever you want, not feeling forced. You are one of those blessed people who can mingle with any culture, consider it a blessing.

Jus take some time every day for two weeks or so to meditate on what's important to you...before long you'll figure out what the next step is. :)

Is it possible for you to see a therapist? Sometimes a professional can really help out. Reading can help too. There are some good self-help books out there.

You can be the best influence to your old and new Friends. Show the new friends how you use to be and your old friends how you are now. Be the same to both - and you will have a family of friends!

Good luck!
