I can beat that-- My husband leaves his shirts buttoned (and usually one arm is inside out, turns his socks inside out as he pulls them off, takes his pants and underwear off at the same time, so usually the undies get shoved into a leg hole, which I have to fish out, and generally "fix" the pants leg because it's managed to get inside out too, and leaves his belt in the belt loops. Talk about driving me nuts! We have a large, walk in closet, so when he's done drying off, he drops his towel right there on the carpet in the closet and gets dressed--and leaves the wet towel there.
People have said to let him do his own laundry. Yeah--they don't know my husband. He'll let his laundry pile up until it's climbing the walls, then shove ALL of it in the washer at once with way too much detergent. The last time he washed his own clothes, the center of the load was still dry...
(sigh) What's a girl to do? :) Oh, and no, you are NOT too hard on him! If you're doing the laundry, he should give you the courtesy of taking the extra 10 second or so (if that!) to unbutton 4 or 5 buttons.

By demands of stark ettiquete a shirt should be completely unbuttoned before being properly hung on a hangar. Those that make shirts will argue that it is better for the shirt as well, they'll say that it stresses the shift to leave the buttons in their holes and besides when you iron the shirt it is best with buttons not in holes. Still --------------------------- they are his shirts and if it really bothers you then hire a maid - - - because doubtful that he will change.

If he does his own laundry, he can do as he pleases with the buttons. If you do his laundry, point out that you have to unbutton his shirts before you can iron them and it makes a lot of extra work for you. Most shirts today are drip dry, but I betcha a nickle he doesn't know that .......

it's better for the shirt to unbutton it before taking it off because pulling it over the head stretches the seams. also, it's bloody bugging to always have to unbutton them before ironing. so, on the whole i don't think you're too hard on him, but don't expect him to change this way or the other. men will be men... ;-)
