How long is a couple considered to be "newlyweds?"?

The term, "newlyweds" is relative. From the first day of marriage up to six months or even a year is commonly referred to as the newlywed period. But, couples who have been married five years are like newlyweds to those who have been married ten years. And, my husband and I, married almost thirty years, are newlyweds compared to my parents who celebrated their 67th anniversary this year. That's why is say it is a relative term.

My husband and I have been married for a little over 5 years now and people still call us newlyweds because we still "have that newly married couple look". I'm not sure if there really is a time limit. I hope we have another 5 years or more where we're considered newlyweds!

I agree with those who feel that newlywed is subjective on the part of the couple involved. My husband and I still felt newly wed until about 5 years after we were married. Then we started thinking and acting like "an old married couple".

Etiquette says that a woman can be introduced as a a bride for a full year; so I should think the term newlyweds would apply as well.

You know someone once told me your a newlywed until you start having children! Friday I was at my friends wedding reception and he tells me "I never want to lose this newlywed feeling."

I'll say about a year into the marriage the term newlyweds should be gone.

Yeah, I agree - at least for a year. Some will still call you a newlywed even after a couple years sometimes. :)

When you can be in the bathroom together and not do anything. When that time comes, you aren't newlyweds anymore.
