This sounds like night terrors. I had these when I was little, and I remember how terrifying it was to wake up and actually still SEE, as real to me as this keyboard is right now, what I had been having the nightmare about. I recommend they speak with their son's pediatrician or a mental health professional about this. As much as this sounds like an overreaction, night terrors are SERIOUS stuff! Basically, try and imagine the very worst, scariest, most terrifying nightmare you've ever had. Now, imagine that this nightmare didn't go away upon awakening, not even after a few seconds or a few minutes afterward. It took me sometimes up to ten minutes before the "wolf" (what most of my more severe night terrors were about) would dissipate and I could speak again. There were times I was so afraid that I could not even force myself to scream to my parents for help or comfort. If this child is having actual night terrors, or, even if not, if his sleep is being affected or his behavior during the day is changed, medical help is neccessary. Best of luck and keep trying to put yourself in this small, helpless child's shoes!!!!!! That will give you more insight into how to help him and how this is affecting him more than anything else! Also, the link to the night terrors site that the previous poster gave sounds very helpful.

The biggest mistake we make when a child sees a 'boogey man' type character is his room, is to try to convince him that it's 'not there'. When my son was about 4 years old, he began to scream that there were tigers under his bed. Once I realized that the tigers were VERY REAL to him - we set up this nightly ritual - when I took him to his room, we would 'have a talk' with the tigers and tell them that this was HIS room and the tigers had to go back to the zoo or to the forest. First, in a very stern voice I would speak with the tigers, then my son would mirror my actions. We then opened a window and chased the tigers out. It took about three nights for the tigers to finally stay away. My son is in his 30's now and still remembers the tiger ritual.

She really need to keep a close eye on her child, and a closer eye on the man or men that come in and out that house. That bad man may be in her house.I don't know, but i would hate to see anything happen to him because people think that the child is just having a bad dream. If you are really her Friend you need to bring that point to the light.Whether she likes it or not.In my opinion it would be worth the risk for her to get mad rather than her not take that as an option of why her son may be waking up saying that.

I'm assuming glitter water is the same as monster spray. Have the child help his parent mix it up, put in whatever , the point is to make the child involved in creating the mixture, then he will feel like he is really the one getting rid of the bad man. Poor kid!

What is going on with the child during the day? Is someone putting thoughts in his head? That sounds strange to say the bad man is in his room. If he were just waking up with night screams that would be one thing, but to say that, that's odd. She needs to find out who the "bad man" is and try to get rid of him, in her son's mind.

I had a similar problem with my five year old daughter. It turns out someone had let her watch the cartoon scooby doo. Now I'm very careful about what she watches on tv. I also use 'monster spray'. It's scented room spray by avon. I've also used lightly scented body sprays. I always choose a scent that she likes. Another thing we have tried is a night light.

this doesnt sound good. who does he think the "bad man" is? also, what is glitter water? and what is it suppost to do to help this problem?
i would suggest finding out what this child is watching on t.v. that has him so afraid. also if its not what he is watching on t.v.......is the house haunted? does he have a big imagination? is he lacking attention? i would suggest getting to the bottom of his fear and find out whats causing this fear, to know how to fix the problem.
again, i have to ask, what is glitter water? hmmmm. ive never heard of that.
goodluck.

Sounds to me like he's watching too much crap on TV. And kids hear what their parents watch, you know. Some kids are extremely suggestible and the adults in his home need to be more aware of what this child is exposed to -- in conversation as well as on TV. Too many adults talk about things kids don't need to hear, as if they are deaf or stupid.

i do not think he is getting these things in his head on his own..i think there is a reason...my grandson i noticed the other night woke up crying every once in a while and i know it is cause the parents fight so much around him...a child can be told something that will scare them too...i want to report my son and his wife but i do not want to lose my grandchild so at this time i choose to pray for the family....i think they are in enough trouble as it is...this upsets me too....
