we don't obey God because of what He will do to us if we don't
we obey because He made us and knows what is good for us
God isn't some cosmic killjoy, He tells us to avoid adultery (which is what this would have been since she was married)
not because it's fun, but because it can get us killed and it will poison our soul

Most folks today do not realize that the fear of God is really just the deep respect for God... enough to keep him from doing what He knew was wrong. Potiphars wife was the agressor in this incident and Joseph was just a young handsome man...probably not attracted to an older woman. He knew his place...as servant...and he knew his God. He paid a high price for his choice, but it was all part of the plan of God to preserve the Jewish people. God had a plan for Joseph and Joseph knew it. He remembered the dream he had when he was just a lad, that the moon and the stars would bow to him, that the sheaves of wheat would bow to him... He had not seen the fulfillment of the dream. God made him a dream specialist, able to interpret dreams, his own and the butlers and the bakers and the Pharaohs. He respected God, because he was acquainted with Him. I would not say he was 'saved' and going to heaven. He did not know the term saved...it is a new Testament term. Heaven is a place for the righteous dead. I am sure Joseph is there now...after Jesus went and preached to the old testament saints and took captivity captive and led them on high... but like most OT saints, he spent lots of time in 'Abraham's bosom first.

This story is in Genesis 39:06-23. The answer Joseph gave
was in vs.9 (he did not want to sin against God). If you read on,
you'll see how God blessed him for being faithful. That is the
lesson for us. Do not sin against God and He will bless you like
you wouldn't believe. For others who refer to Joseph, the husband of Mary in the Gospels, that is a different Joseph. Just
like today, we have many people with the same names (Mary,
Whitney, David, Jane, Bill, etc. etc.)

Jehovah was using Joseph to save Israel by taking him to Egypt, Joseph knew God was using him and his love for God kept him from doing wrong and losing the blessings from God.

In the context of the Old Testament fear means respect. So, Joseph respected God so much that he wanted to obey his law of chastity.

Psalms tell us "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."
Joseph had a deep respect for the Lord.
He respected his employer, Potipher.
And for sins committed on Earth, there are usually worldly consequences.
By making righteous decisions, we avoid a lot of pain.

Basic religious thought mostly agrees that you can't get "locked" into being saved and then that's it for the rest of your life. The Judeo/Christian belief is that you have to constantly make sure you are vigilant as to the state of your soul. Well, except Calvanism I guess.
Plus, maybe Potifer's wife resembled a donkey.
