The followers of the Shinto faith worshipped Kami, or spirits. Some notable ones were Ameterasu, the most powerful who is the sun goddess, the mischevious Susa-no-wo, the storm god, and Izanagi who created this world with a sacred spear. They believe that their ancestors watch over them after they die and keep small shrines in their homes for their ancestors and household Kami. They also go to large shrines, the greatest one being Ise which is dedicated to Ameterasu and houses one of the three sacred relics she gave to the first Japanese emperor, who was her grandson, and it is an 8 sided mirror. The other is the sword Kusanagi given to her by Susa-no-wo as an apology and a gem the other Kami used to lure her out of hiding. The sword is at the shrine of Susa-no-wo at Asaka and the gem is in the Kyoto palace. All the relics as well as the japanese royal family are over 2,000 years old. A basic understanding of Shinto.,

worship? hm..Asia, including Japan, is polytheism area.

Ppl go to Shinto shrine to wish for their good health and for prosperity.
they also go to temple to pray for dead ppl.
Ancestors are enshrined in their house or lies under the tombstone in the grave of temple. (No grave in Shrine)

Shinto is Japanese original religion.
Temple is usually Buddism, from India via China..

Some ppl place Kamidana high for worship. But this is not for the ancestors.
It is to wish for your good health, prosperity and success for your business.etc.

I found a Shinto shrine in US.
