Hell is the abode of punishment which God has prepared for the unbelievers and the evildoers. The torture and horror in it cannot be imagined
without it, God would not be the Just and Wise and merciful God He is. God created men and made them responsible for their actions; some behaved well but others did not. If there is no future life in which the virtuous are rewarded and the vicious are punished, there would be no justice and the creation of men in that way and the sending of Prophets to them would be to no purpose at all. But this kind of behaviour is not expected of a man known to be rational and just, let alone the Perfect Creator.
Without belief in this Day on which everyone will receive his just deserts (when the wrongdoers are justly punished and the righteous are rewarded bountifully), man would lose the impetus to behave fairly towards others and the oppressed would grow hopeless and miserable.
Belief in the Hereafter is an essential element that helps to control human delinquency and establish collective happiness and virtues in society.

There is no reason to think about heaven or hell, because you will never know.... but look at it this way. People who mess up their own lives make their own hell, and people who allow Jesus to take the blame for their mistakes can taste heaven in their lives. I think that when we die we continue on the path we have chosen in life

Whether there is or isn't a heaven or hell after death, there is a heaven or hell here on earth. In most cases, we make our own heaven or hell. But in a few cases, circumstances force hell upon us, while more fortunate cases stumble into heaven with seemingly little effort on their part.

There are many people who believe that heaven and hell are the outcome of what we do in the here and now, that heaven or hell is made right here in this existence. Among them are many Unitarian Universalists. Here are the principles and purposes taken from the Unitarian Universalist Association website:
We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote
* The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
* Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
* Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
* A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
* The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
* The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
* Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
The living tradition which we share draws from many sources:
* Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life;
* Words and deeds of prophetic women and men which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion and the transforming power of love;
* Wisdom from the world's religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life;
* Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God's love by loving our neighbors as ourselves;
* Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit;
* Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
Grateful for the religious pluralism which enriches and ennobles our faith, we are inspired to deepen our understanding and expand our vision. As free congregations we enter into this covenant, promising to one another our mutual trust and support.

Not everything people believe is true. Until everyone that doesn't believe in God stops living life their way and starts to live it His way they will never see or believe the truth. None are so blind as those who refuse to see.
