it's from the alprazolam. That is a sedative which will make you really tired in general. you may find if you slowly reduce your dose and come off of it that you will be less tired and the lexapro has probably taken care of a lot of the anxiety.
When I was having panic attacks I took something similar to alprazolam for awhile until my effexor xr kicked in and then i reduced my dose of alprazolam until I quit taking it. the effexor works well enough to control my anxiety. so maybe you will do fine with just the lexapro.
Either way I hope you are seeing a psychiatrist about this. A family doctor doesn't have enough training in these drugs specifically to know what's best for you.

Perhaps they will change you to Effexor or Cymbalta. Both still have the effect on serotonin like Lexapro, but they also have an effect of norepinephine, which Lexapro does not have. Norepinephrine seems to be associated with more of the fatigue symptoms of depression.

Get off the Xanax!! (aka. alprozolam) It is highly addictive as so are the rest of benzo's! That would be the one that keeps you tired all day. The longer you are on it, the bigger hell you will go through to get off. Make sure you are weened off that one with the doctors help. That may be all you need to do depending on how well you and your counselor are managing the rest of your depression therapy. Keep an eye on your diet and exercise. Good Luck!

Are you willing to try something all natural? your MD might think your silly for trying, but they are taught to write prescriptions in med school, they don't know what is naturally available to us for us to heal ourselves.
I am taking an all natural mineral supplement that gives me energy, I feel so good! I suffered with depression off and on for years, but nothing helped permanently. The minerals are very specific to your needs, inexpensive, easy to take and have no side effects. You don't feel druged, because its not a drug. You only need to take them for a couple of months and your body and brain will be "reset" to healthy. Our bodies can heal themselves given the proper natural elements in the right amounts. Its worth a try, the drugs that you have been on only relieve symptoms, they can't heal you.
email me for more info, I'll answer questions and can give you the website of my supplier so he can help.

To answer your question, yes I know a heckuva lot. I've taken just about every antidepressant and anti-anxiety pill there is. Not one of them CURES ANYTHING. They might enhance your mood somewhat, but the underlying cause remains. Worse, are the inevitable side affects like weight gain, sleepiness, etc.
My personal recommendation (I'm not a doctor, just a depression/anxiety survivor) is to learn how to get off the drugs by curing the underlying problem. Find a new therapist who knows how to properly apply cognitive therapy (thought control) and/or check these out:

Try old fashioned tricyclic anti-depressants like Elavil and only just before bed cos you'll sleep like an angel. Then when you get up you may feel a little draggy but within an hour you'll be tearing up the town.

I like lexapro, so maybe it is this combination. You need to ask your doctor, and work on this as a team. Sometimes it takes a while to get your meds just right, so be patient.
Best wishes.

I would suggest Acetyl L-carnetine .... an alternative med.
right off the shelf at your supplement section or health food vitamin store.... Make sure it's the acetyl type so that it passes the blood brain barrier. probably much safer than prescription
medicine . it's both attributed as anti depressant and energy enhancer.

I personally don't know too much (anything) about these types of medications ... one thing for sure, though ... don't ask Tom Cruise about it. Nuff said.
Good luck - hope you get to feeling better soonly!
