Dicloxacillin is actually somewhat limited in spectrum for common oral infections. It is usually reserved for infections that do not respond to penicillin and it is only used when a culture and sensitivity test shows that it is the best choice. Dicloxacillin is for killing penicillinase-resistant staph infections.

You would be better off seeing your surgeon and being evaluated for a broad spectrum antibiotic. Penicillin and amoxicillin are usually the first choice for oral infections.

If you have an infection after mouth surgery, you HAVE to see your doctor. Certain strains can be treatment resistant to antibiotics. A doctor won't generally believe you if you say you've been taking an antibiotic that you happen to have a stash of, when he's counting amount of trials.

Please, please just call your doc. You must have one if you had the surgery!

Also, don't get it from Tijuana.

If your doctor prescribed it to you it should be fine. Don't just take it on your own. The mouth heals very well on its own and many procedures don't require antibiotics.

Ask your doctor or any pharmacist. Anti-biotics are very dangerous at the same time good for your body. You cannot take any form of anti-biotics as you please coz it may turn your bacteria into a form of 'superbug', resisting the anti-biotic effect
