Well I know that a promise ring is like something that is used to keep the place of a wedding ring, so the left hand ring finger is appropriate, if it's more of a casual type of thing then the RIGHT hand ring finger is cool. And I guess if I was a dude giving a promise ring I'd say...

"Baby, this is our two year aniversary, and it's to celebrate that we've been with each other for two amazing years. And I decided that having more and more magical years to come is exactly the thing I'd want for our anniversary, here's this ring, and it represents my feelings for you, and..." I dunno what I'd say lol

Well, when I was 17 and my sweetheart gave me a promise ring he said something like:

I know it's too soon to talk marriage and engagement, but I wanted you to have this ring. I promise I love you.

Or something like that. He wasn't big on words. But he was very sweet. The funniest thing is that 14 years later, I still have the ring. He and I are still really close and still love each other, even though we didn't stay together.

I always thought a promise ring represented a "promise" to marry in the future. I would suggest that he say that he is not ready to marry her at this point but promises to build on the relationship heading toward marriage someday.

If he really cares for her he'll know what to say when he gives it to her.

But he could say something like, "I want you to be mine....So I bought this for you." <.< Its kinda strange but there was an idea, lol.
