"Man is just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all! "

Agree or disagree? Why?

lol @ dora explora: I'm not mad at anyone. It's a quote that I happen to agree with very much, and just wanted to get other people's opinions on it.

I would disagree.

man is vicious not because of spiritual or intellectual development but because we have developed the ability to go against our instincts. An animal will always be controlled by his basic nature and can never break that.

humans on the other hand have the ability to do what they wish. It is both a blessing and a curse.

agree, intellect is what makes us so much more stronger than other animals. What makes our spiritual and intellectual development so bad is how we use it to manipulate those around us, human or not, we are the vicious animal and we are over populated and fighting amongst ourselves for the right of life (survival of fittest)

there are few animals who kill just to kill, so your basic premise is right except that there are also very few animals who will stake their life on helping another (except mother instinct)

Humans exist on both ends of the scale, would you call Mother Theresa vicious?

How about the firefighters who run in while others run out?

doctors who go to third world countries to help the less fortunate?

man has the God-given capability to be good or evil, unfortunately more choose evil

Agree, however i wouldn't use the words "Divine" or "spiritual." Our spirituality comes from our higher intellect and the ability to worry about our certain demise. Otherwise, yes... we are far worse to one another than any other animal species on this planet... and yes Christians, we ARE animals.

i agree. why?

man is superior to all species and genera of the world. so that doesnt make things simpler or any praising. it means something more than that. it means that he has a job to look after every species in the world and also for each other -- since homosapiens are the only species that are capable of doing that.

even animals today show more love for each other, but we disrespect each other and bad mouth each other a lot. the idea of "Mean and Sarcastic being COOL'" is driving us further away from our ETHICS & MORALS.

No, man did not become the most vicious animal because of intellectual development but the most rational animan of all.

As a vegetarian and an atheist i agree.

"We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form. [William Ralph Inge]

Animals have no choice except to follow the dictates of their instinctual motivations. Humans are a different class of being altogether, with the ability to choose right from wrong, act on selfish compulsions, or deny the self and serve others. That last one is a reflection of God our creator.
