Some self-tests:

I'm convinced I had this as a teenager, and one very telling symptom I haven't seen on any of these tests is thinking: when people in the same room laugh, they're always laughing at me.

How I got over it: became a retail cashier. It required me to smile and say hello to people, answer questions, and I learned automatic responses like "Fine, how are you?" that I always used to have to grope for. Plus, I was safely behind a protective counter, lol. The challenge of overcoming the fear was really quite thrilling. People used to ask me why I was so happy.

If you think you may have it go see your doctor and explain your symptoms. You don't have to see a psychiatrist. There are a number of medication on the market that help with social anxiety disorder.

Or maybe you are just very shy???

You need to speak with your doctor, I did about anxiety and I feel a lot better, but the meds have some bad side effects though! Good luck!

yes that is what social anxiety is like. You are not comfortable with a crowd, a party, a ball game because you might have to talk to people and you feel light headed or out of place.

i believe you might have a phobia if it is hard to go into public places. my mom had it and it really stunk cuz we could never do anything and she even missed my graduation. its something like agoraphobia(not sure of the spelling)she had these issues for years i am 29 now and we started living with her when i was 7. just recently the doctor put her on zoloft and she is doing much better. as for talking to strangers you are not alone many americans are afraid to talk to strangers cuz we have that put into our brains from when we were old enough to talk so it kind of puts us off a little bit cuz of what we learned.
