I KNOW WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE -- hellooo! -- what I'm asking is when should I use them? Let's say I just made a salad and want to eat it tomorrow, should I put foil over the bowl or saran wrap? And why doesn't saran wrap stick to the bowl very well? I just want some tips on using both better. geez

For most foods you can use either one to cover. Foods that are acidic should not be covered with aluminum foil for more than a short time because the acid eats into the foil. If you are using saran wrap, use a piece large enough so that it can adhere to itself around the bowl, not just the bowl. Also if you place a plate on top of the saran wrap covered bowl it will keep better.

You would want to use saran wrap on salad to keep out the air that would make the vegetables limp. Foil can be used for stuff the air won't affect like meat. Or stuff that doesn't drip. And wonderful for cooking and easy clean-up. Saran wrap is also better to use on stuff that will be left outside of the fridge for a better seal.

Aluminum is used for cooking in oven. Saran wrap is for storage. But if you make a salad and want it for tomorrow, I would put it in a plastic bag. Saran will hold to glass or any none plastic bowl. You do need to stretch it a little.

I find if I am using a plastic bowl it is easiest to "mummify" the bowl with saran wrap....the wrap will not stick to the bowl, but it will stick to itself, so you just wrap it around a few times to make it stick. Use foil for anything you are going to put back in the oven later, but don't put foil in the microwave (it will create a pretty light show with sparks everywhere, but may damage the microwave).

saran wrap likes glass bowls better than metal ones or plastic. I think it has to do with the static electricity effects....
I use foil for things that are going to go in the oven to reheat them. Otherwise, saran wrap (or tupperware). Of course, you could save the foil and reuse it for things like grandma used to. Make a hat while you are at it so the aliens can't microwave your brain. (or the NSA)

I only use foil to cook with (oven or stove top only)
I don't like Saran Wrap, it seems to have a mind of its own.
I use Glad Cling wrap. It clings to the plate or bowl better and you don't have to fight with it when you take it off the roll.
Also I have found that foil discolors on foods kept in the refrigerator. It gets dark and leaves a metallic taste on food

Saran wrap is better but the Glad press and seal is the best but it costs twice as much! I use foil as a liner and for meats or will double wrap first in plastic then in foil to prevent freezer burn. I also like foil for sandwiches it keeps the fresh and crisp not soggy. You have to experiment for yourself to know how each works best for you:)

quick rule for foil and saran wrap...
foil should never be used to wrap uncooked foods.It can give foods a 'tinny' taste.
Saran wrap will stick better if you put water on your hand and run it around the container before putting the wrap on.

it depends on the type of bowl..glass bowls work well with saran wrap..if it's plastic it won't stick..use aluminum...cover the salad with saran wrap so it can breath and not wilt...hope i helped!
