Van Gogh
The brush strokes are incredible, the colors luscious. His subject matter is more diverse than one would think.
The paintings grab your eyeballs. He poured his heart, soul, and, mind into his work.

My kids are my favorite painters right now. They show me THEIR way of how the world looks to them, which is sometimes even more interesting than some of the "famous" or trained artists I have seen.
If I had to pick someone in the latter catagory, I would pick Renoir for his portraits.

well my perspective for this question is different. i dont have any fav painter sort.GOD is the biggest artist and i feel u too will agree with me.all other worldly painters are inspired by nature ..mainly for their art
and this nature is god made and he is the only creator of it.he has just done it once, and his colours are vibrant and new every time.so no one can beat him.
i know i am little off track but cant help it.take care.

I would be hard pressed to name a favorite. What I have are certain artists who are my favorites in certain styles.
You can't possibly compare a Pollack to a Picasso to a Dali to a Rembrandt to a Gauguin or a Man Ray. All of these are favorites of mine after their own style.

I could not pick. I like abstract. The artists I enjoy are more under the radar and obscure. Not that I don't enjoy really popular ones, but I like to give the others their fair credit. Well, I try anyways. :)

Claude Monet, because I like the water lilies and the colours.
