"But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca [idiot], shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire."
Matthew 5:22

Now do you see? All it takes is the threat of hellfire and look at how nice everyone is being.

They obey not because they love god, but because they fear hell.

Who said I'm a christian? I quote scripture and believe in Love. What does that tell you?

I agree, attitude is very important to a Christian. There are many, many verses about heart attitudes in the Bible. I can't speak for others, but no name-calling is allowed in our household at all; it just doesn't fit with who we are as followers of Christ.

By the way, I do not do this out of fear of hell. I do it because of who I am in Christ. It's a natural outgrowth of what has happened to me when I accepted Christ. I don't WANT to call names. I hope you can see the difference.

Also, for someone who believes in love but not God, you aren't very loving to me, giving me a thumbs down for not allowing name-calling. I would think you'd like the fact that we show love in our home by not allowing name-calling. Maybe you could explain that a little further. It doesn't make sense to me!

In the scripture you quote, I hear Jesus challenging us to consider looking at God's laws more deeply. In other words, "Thou shall not murder" is one of the old testament commandments that, for most of us is...a no-brain-er. But Jesus is saying that we shouldn't be so self righteous. Murder happens on different levels. Do we do violence with verbal attacks? Do we murder people's reputation through name calling and gossip? These acts are not indicative of a Loving heart. This is what Jesus came to teach us...how to live on every level with a loving heart...to let Love inform our actions and attitudes. To live life outside the realm of Love is to feel hell-fire. I don't know why we risk it...we must still be confused about how WE are choosing our own pain through giving in to fear. It's a problem we all face in some way every day...not just Christians, but all humans.

Peace and Love to you!
:-)

Matt 5
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

NT:4469 rhaka (rhak-ah'); of Aramaic origin [compare OT:7386]; O empty one, i.e. thou worthless (as a term of utter vilification):
KJV - Raca.

Know who thy brother is!
There are many fools in this world, many seek hell!

Well, most Christians don't believe they will actually go to Hell, because once they are saved they are always saved. So it really doesn't apply to them. Maybe what the quote means is that someone who would say such a thing isn't really a Christian at all, just a pretender.

Why are you on this site? Every question you write is some kind of attack on Christians. If you can quote scripture you can obey it: "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own...first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye?"

Just the cross they have to bear, I suppose...
If you believe in a God who loves you so much that He will cast you into hellfire forever for calling your brother a fool, you deserve what you get.

Its goes beyond calling your brother a Idiot but its if you harbor hatred along with spiteful words in your heart towards them you are in danger of fire.

I think alot of Christians really don't know any better. I didn't find this out until like 4 years ago.

True saints of God do not risk this. You are using the generic Christian, and that is not always the most accurate descriptive.
