well Im not African American but I would suggest you ask a hairstylist that can give you tips on how to style it with a product .Usually when your hair is thin around your hairline there is nothing you can do .And as far as edges men and children get that woman dont .I work around LADYS AND MYSELF that do ethnic hair and Ive never seen a lady get edged .So you probably could ask for it ,but I would just style it foward around the hairline is the best thing and bring the bangs down or swooped to the side.

U need to stimulate growth to your edges.
Tried and true products to try are:
Sulfur 8 - hair grease, stinks but works.
Wild Grow - hair oil treatment, with natural ingredient mix, that works great to stimulate edge growth.
Castor Oil - great for scalp.
All of the above are to be applied to dry hair, and lightly, rub in vigorously once a week, or as often as you wash your hair.
For cosmetic cover, there is a spray, that creates the look of hair... and your even able to brush in with your own hair, only thing is you want to make sure these products are not added further damage to hair as its a chemical.
Try the above products, (from local or Black Beauty Supply Store) give it 6-8 wks, and see if you experience a difference.
In the meantime, try to not to put too much tension to hair in pull back style, as that adds to the thin edges.
Good HAIR starts with care.
Luck!

I don't know if you have a Sally's Beauty Supply store near you or any beauty supply store but there is a product called Dr. Miracle's Anti-Breakage Strengthening Cream. I would use this as I had the same problem and decided to try this product. It worked for me! Here is a link the product line: http://64.82.5.145/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PLST&Store_Code=DM
I am sure that if not what I suggested something in the product line will help you. Good luck, and don't worry you are not alone!

I am a white woman who has worked in all Black hair salons all of my career, and I have a 17 yr old biracial daughter. Stop putting tension on your hairline, no braiding, no relaxer, no thermal iron or hot comb, and no extensions on that part of your hair, and keep your hair moisturized. Pomade will give your hair some structure and make it look like there is more of it.

Partial answer only as some of the previous replies are bang on.
Be preventative and proactive. As much as you're tempted to, DO NOT wear baseball caps, headbands and other hair accessories that involve your hairline.
When you're resting wear a silk or satin scarf (or sleep on a pillowcase with one of these fabrics)

Start messaging your hairline areas and temples and scalp with a excellent oil. I use Mame 'N Tail Carrot Oil Creme. Don't style your hair in ponytails if that's what your doing, your pulling your hair to tight to cause thinning.

Tell that no good hairdresser of yours to stop putting relaxer on your edges first and do the crown of your head first!
