Exorcism is plainly spoken of in the scriptures and therefore is part of true Christianity. Many people have illness both physical and mental that can be attributed to the possesion of demonic forces. Those most at risk are those who hold their religion in highest regard. Satan won't waste his time on those he already knows are his. His focus is on the person struggling hard to do right and getting things going right and just about reaching Godliness. It is those who come under the fiercest attacks and must be ever vigilant to make sure to ask God to keep a hedge of protection around them. I do not know of anyone who has had an exorcism but I have known of one who needs it. And that is my sister. The signs and changes of voice she exhibits is a classic case of demonic interference at the least. You would have to hear it to believe it. She is also very spiritual but she left herself open to attack with the use or should I say misuse of alcohol. It doesn't take but a small crack for satan to use to his advantage.

If you believe in God, then you must believe in Satan. God is capable of all things, so is Satan, to a point. If God can posses the human body, why can't Satan? And if Satan can, then there will be need of someone that knows how to exorcise a demon. Now you have to see they don't have exorcisms taking place around the world 24-7, 365. Oh they use it, but very sparingly. In fact there is quite an investigation of the matter before it can be determined whether or not an exorcism is actually necessary.

Christ and some of the saints ordered many spirits to come out of possessed persons. Such phenomena are described in the Holy Bible. There are evil spirits that can possess people. These spirits can be driven out of a possessed person by ordering the spirits to leave the person, but by only direction of someone that truly has faith in Christ. See Acts 19:13-16.

I think exorcism IS part of true Christianity. I'm not saying there's a frequent demand for it, at least in my part of the world, but it's certainly practiced in the New Testament (see Paul's missionary journeys in the book of Acts). It doesn't get much more Christian than that.
