an x-ray would not pick up evidence of disc injury, if that were to have occurred. it's true that back injuries take a long time to heal, but if the pain is increasing, or if it radiates down into her bottom or her legs, it may be more serious than just a strained muscle, and needs further medical treatment. "slipped" or bulging discs are a very common injury from falls....hopefully your mom will be feeling better soon and not need any further treatment than just bed rest. best of luck!

She needs to go back to the doctor or to the Emergency Room-I'd go to the emergency room-she may have to wait a bit but they have all the equipment there to do further tests not all injuries show up on a X-RAY-she may have a slipped or chipped disc. There is no sense in somebody being that severe in pain-she may need stronger pain pills and they will also do that in the emergency room-of course the insurance deductible will be approx $100.but i the cot for lab and so forth will be the same. She can also call Her Doctor and tell him/his nurse that the pain is worse, pills not helping and if the doctor is sure nothing serious then he can call in stronger medicine to the pharmacy. Good luck

If they didn't see anything in an xray it might be muscle related, and then it can take weeks to go away. However, if she thinks she might have fractured or broken something, get a second opinion. I know someone, who one doctor took xrays and said she was fine, and then another doctor looked and found a fracture! So, be sure to double check.

A back injury takes a long time to heal. I was in a car accident quite a few years ago and I still have serious pain. You could always try either a heating pad or an ice pack.

After 3 years of physical therapy, only 2 alternatives WORKED,
without medication, conflicting doctors oppinions...Visit after visit.
Accupuncture, & Feldenkrais! Take it from someone who has been thru enough to relate to the frustration.
You'll thank me in the end...Promise!!! (My probs never came back!!!)
Always get more than 1 opinion before surgery!!!
Chiropractors just love to see you week after week, after month,
year in year out...
