no one is talking about the bird flu right now because while it is still spreading the only cases that have arisen have been from bird to human. it's not that dangerous right now. once it's starts spreading human to human is when all hell is going to break loose. The avian flu is not in North or South America yet and is just starting to penetrate Europe. Understand, however, that local state and federal governments have plans-of-action for when it does. These plans are in the process of being reviewed and analyzed for effectiveness.

The bird flu is simply horrible! I love all birds (especially chickens) and it pains me to hear about it. The thing is, people hate to hear about bad news, and the media really doesn't give a snot about the animals who are suffering as long as they get paid and entertain the masses. Also the bird flu is kinda old news. They've been talking about it for so long that they have gotten bored of the topic.

I hear about it on the news just about every day where I live. They caught mosquitoes a few blocks from my house that tested positive for West Nile Disease (Bird Flu). In my city alone there have been 18 confirmed cases of the disease in humans just this past month. If you live up north in the US it may take longer for the disease to get up there because the winters are colder there and mosquito season isn't as long as it is in the south. Also a lot of times the media likes to hype things up to make it sound worse than it actually is. Remember when SARS was the big thing a few years ago? I have never met anyone in the US that knew someone with the disease. West Nile is around its just not as bad as the media has made it out to be.

Because other things are easier to get people up in arms over so that more people will watch the news. Then the media can make money by selling commercial air time at higher prices. And so they can extend their influence on the public. That is what it is all about- money and power.
ps- west nile virus is NOT bird flu.

the government is hard at work, along with governments in other countries. Even the ready.gov homeland security website mentions a flu pandemic as a potential cause of disaster. So it is real and if it becomes a human to human virus we could be in serious trouble.
Also the US election is coming up, so bad news is out, gas prices are down etc.

Yeah I know! I was thinking like "oh in 2 months its gonna be here and were all screwed" and then it just disappears? It's like the disease is media-sensitive and since the news is ignoring it, I guess it must have died.
