I wonder how many christians who answer without bothering to read the linked question realize how easy it is to thumb-down their answer so I don't waste my time reading it?

Because their belief system is based off of a selfish notion of reward or punishment after death. They have chosen to be in slaved by this notion thinking themselves to be saved or at least have a chance at salvation in the end. Anyone who relies on this reward or punishment system as a means to being moral is in a sad way. Morality should come from your intellect and social upbringing, you should not have to be tricked into being a moral person, it should be something that you want regardless of the out come of your life.

it's because Christianity, as all god based religions, are used as a means of control. If you give half your hard earned money to the bum "aka priest" and you follow all his rules, then you can go to heaven. If you have a brain and follow your own path in life then you have "sinned" and broken the rules, so you get to fry in "Hell."

I much more prefer the Wiccan religion. Whatever we do comes back on us. If we help people, we get help, but when we harm others on purpose, then we also get that back three fold. We don't have rules to follow other than the rules we make and live for ourselves.

Show us how to be compasionate. Tell us oh great one. Tell us how you feed the poor clothe the sick tell us what charitees you give to that are not christian Jewish buddist or any other charitable religion. Show us what you do to make the world a better place. Be a man and Tell us what you do. All Im seeing you do is spread bigotry and hatred. we have enough of that already, work on those demons pal.
Prove me wrong with your actions.

Christians have tremendous compassion for sould in Hell. After all, it could be us.

The first and most important thing to remember is God does not condemn anyone to hell. We do it to ourselves through our disobedience to God's laws.

Really, His laws aren't restrictive. They are quite reasonable. Just think what a wonderful world this would be if everyone followed them rather than our own pursuits of pleasure, power and pride.

...and no one would end up in hell!

that is why I think the Christian concept of hell is illogical.

the idea that I am infinitely punished for a finite life dose not make any sense

The souls in hell made their own bed, now they're lying in it. All we can do is try to help the people who are still alive.

It's not our fault. Our job is to tell them that they are going to hell, and that the only way out is through Jesus. If they reject Him, it's their own ignorance that is paving their pathway to hell. I, for one, feel very compassionate towards those who willfully ignore His prodding at their hearts.
