If a Muslim man marries a Christian woman she does not have to convert.

This is based on the actions of the Prophet (pbuh). He was married to Muslim, Jewish, Christian, pagan, and atheist women.

Are they understanding of the importance of their paths, one to the other? Are they each free within the relationship to follow the practices that are important, without these practices being seen as a problem by the other person? If/when there are children, can the pair agree on how the children will be introduced to the spiritual life?
Asking these questions now will help build a strong foundation for the couple, if their spiritual practices are important to them. Last, how do their families feel about the union? If the families are unhappy, how is the couple going to approach this issue as a unit?

I'm a Muslim convert, I'm married and I'm the head of the household.

Any questions on whose religion is to be followed?

-------

If two people won't convert to the other's religion, then they should just get married in a civil ceremony or not get married at all if converting would only bring about division rather than unity.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!

The couple would be "unequally yoked", meaning they would be incompatible at a very intimate level: their faiths. Sooner or later this will be a VERY LARGE PROBLEM.

No matter what the politicians say, Christians and Muslims do not worship the same god. All faiths are not the same! The day will come when they look at each other, perhaps over a ruined dinner arguement, and they will see, not husband and wife, but "infidel" and "unbeliever".

Better to avoid the heartbreak altogether.

The bible tells Christians to not be unequally yoked. To marry a Muslim falls in this category because they are two opposing belief systems. Muslim men seek out Christian women to marry because they get special recognition and rewards for for doing so. So, it isn't a marriage out of love but one for a Muslim man to put another feather in his turban.

The relationship would be filled with difficulties especially if neither wants to convert. If the woman is the christian, her world would be turned upside down. So I guess my answer is NO.
