The advice on the K is pretty good, because that's basically where your tongue needs to be. Only, the tongue should not be pressed on the palate, as in a "K" sound, but leave a space for the air to go through. When you pronounce the R, you have to have a sort of vibration as the air forces its way between your tongue and your palate. Try to imitate a cat purring sound, it will be pretty close. When pronounced in words, it will be a much shorter sound, but that's the basis of it.

Ever hawk a loogie??? well try to do the second part of hawking a loogie (not the snorting part) but be a little more gentler on the back of your throat. Allow a little air between the back of your tongue and throat. Then just exhale. (Either that or do the K thing like discussed before) if it helps in the beginning, use some spit in between your tongue and throat It is just like gargling but not so much liquid. I find that by attending French emersion camps or being submersed in the language for awhile I get better and better at it. The back of your throat might even get sore at first so bring some throat drops. lol Good luck.

It's almost like a K, the back of your tongue hits the soft palete of your mouth when you make a K sound, but to make a French R sound, the tongue doesn't quite hit the soft palete, there's a tiny space which allows air to rush through and make the sound. Practice by making K sounds, and then lowering your tongue just a tiny bit so that you make the French R sound!

Just try to push your tongue a little to the back, and try to "touch" your throat with it.
