A man is stranded on an island that measures 3 mile long & 1 mile wide. There is only grass, bushes, & trees growing on the island, no beach. The island is surrounded by shark infested waters & It's never rained for 4 months. A fire starts at the east end of the island, the wind is blowing 1/2 a mile an hour & the fire is travelling lengthways. The man has no means of putting the fire out, no tools, buckets, or implements to dig with & the ground is too hard to use his hands. How does he survive without being burned??

the fire starts on east end of the island & the wind is blowing constantly westwards

he makes a fire torch from the bushes or trees, lights it from the fire, runs to the west of the island & sets the last 500 -800 yards alight. This will burn out before the fire coming from the east reaches him, so he can stand safely on the burnt out part.

The wind is blowing to the East, From the West, therefore does not burn all the way across the Island.

The wind is blowing against the fire?
Or the fire's width is not as wide as the island is. In which case he can walk around it.

how do people get into these situations? Anyway, the wind blows out the fire, if not all then some and he walks through the gaps in the fire, unharmed.

go straight to the west of
the island, & since the fire
is moving lengthways, the
man should postion himself
widthways. The fire woudn't
touch even the tip of his fingers....lol

he jumps into the sea and swims to the end of the island thats already burnt.
he survives but all the food has been burned so he dies of starvation a month later anyway.

the fire doesnt burn the whole island as the wind is blowing into the fire so he can save himself.

Its an island he jumps in the water. then climbs back up when it dies out. he's a floater. sharks only attack when they sense danger and are attracted by noise. so if he's quick he'll be fine.

He walks to a bit that has already been burnt or the fire burns the opposite way to where he is standing
