I'm a believer in Jesus and as a human being I've often thought of this scenario. It doesn't shake my faith but I'm curious to know what other believers think. If 2 separate families were both losing a loved one as an example and both families prayed fervently for that person to survive. One victim survived the other one didnt. Ofcourse the survivors family praised God and thanked Him for answering their prayer. How do you supposed the other family should react. I should think they should accept that God did hear their prayers and although difficult must accept that their Maker decided to answer it by bringing his child Home and then the family should pray for comfort. What do you think? It also reminds me of the survivors of the Holocost, Rwandan genocide etc... Thanks for your response.

I am a hospice nurse so I deal with death everyday. The question that you asked is an excellent one. Let me tell you what I have told some people that ask me why God doesn't answer their prayers for their loved one to be healed. The most recent example is a personal one. My beloved mother passed away about seven months ago. She had lung cancer. My son's paternal grandmother also had cancer. She is 63 years old, my mom was 74 years old. My son's grandmommy(his Dad's mom) went to M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. We all prayed for her of course, and through the combination of prayer and medicine she is now in remission. My mom when diagnosed was in stage four of her illness, she chose to enjoy what time she had left. Needless to say we also prayed for her, and she passed away In Feb. of this year. My son asked me that very question "Why did God answer his prayers for his grandmommy and not for his meemaw?" I told him that God ALWAYS answers prayers it's just that sometimes the answer to the prayer is not the one that as humans we want. He did answer our prayers for healing when he took her home to heaven and she was no longer sick and in pain.
I believe with all my heart that God does heal in one way or another, there are just different plains of healing and sometimes death is a type of healing.
Thanks so much for such a thought provoking and interesting question.
To David, you are so wrong, people cry for their personal loss, I cried because I miss my mom, it doesn't make me or anyone else who mourns any less a believer in Christ, it just means we are human.

I agree with you. Both families should praise God's judgement on the matter. We don't know what His divine plan holds for us. Although it would be very difficult, I think that in that situation you have to pray to God to have His will, His decision is what's best for the family. I have learned to not pray for a particular outcome because I now realize that God knows what's best for me. We have a relative right now with terminal cancer and I know that some of our family that are not true believers will fall away if God doesn't step in and miraculously cure him. You have to be able to comfort yourself that you will see your family member again.

It's really hard to second guess God's plan. Sometimes even a sickness can be unto death & part of his plan. Who can begin to understand it all. I pray for my parents to become christians before they die instead of just praying for them to live a long life. It tears me apart when a child dies, but if he goes to heaven because he did not reach the age of accountability then I guess it's for the better than if he would have as an adult possibly died without Christ. . . .So many unanswered questions. Someday it will all be clear.

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. 1 Cor 13:12

If God is so useful, then why does your new toddler choose *you* to coach her approximately Him? it is actual type of creepy to be certain each and all the responses describing the thank you to indoctrinate your new toddler from delivery. on the grounds that babies settle for as real extremely plenty some thing their mom and pop tell them, that is going to be your daughter's clarification for believing in God. wager what happens on the same time as she gets older and is going to varsity and maybe takes a pair of human psychology training? she is going to realize that she does no longer have any good reason to have faith indoors the Christian God distinctive than "that's what i replace into reported to have faith as a clean toddler, and babies have faith although they are reported". you're off to an spectacular initiate at making yet yet another atheist!

People CLAIM to be religious. But people are scared, really scared of death. If you die and go to Heaven, your family should be celebrating your death. But no, they cry, scream, wear dark clothing. Have candles lit, a church, a funeral, etc, etc. They cry over the body, pray to plaster statues and plaster crosses.

That is nonsence. But people do it because they are really not believers. They do not believe there is heaven. They are terrified of death.

Personally, I would not question God's will. If it's your time to go, no amount of prayer is going to change it.

Nothing fails like prayer. People pray to live all the time, yet we all die.
