Maybe you belong in an urban environment. I practically get hives going to small towns. I find them boring, suffocating and depressing (that's just me, my mom's the opposite & hates the big city). Perhaps you crave more opportunity and diverse experiences.

If you pastor is anything like mine, he would be a great help. You see, we have no idea what your past experiences are in your town. We may think that you are depressed because nobody wanted your tracts and were mean to you and made you feel like a failure, each time you return home, so you get the urge to avoid home. We may think that your home town is too judgmental. Sit down with God, our heavenly Father, and talk it out with Him. He'll help you sift through everything, find those reasons and help heal the depression too.

As much as I would like to say that you can cast your problems upon God to handle for you, I can't. I believe that we have to willing to help ourselves and to do what is right for us or we can't help others. God is not in this forum so you will not get his direct answer if that is what you are looking for. Perhaps you should talk to those who are sending you out with the tracts to distribute. Explain to them how depressed you are getting and that this is not the attitude that someone should have when witnessing. If some poor sole came to me with some tract or literature and it was obvious that they were not the happiest thing on earth, I would toss it. Why would I want to be unhappy like them? If this is the persona that is being shown to others you are not helping your cause. Depression should not be a side affect of sharing.

If you've gone to the city to pass out tracks for God, another reason could be that you are under a spiritual attack. Start rebuking the depressing spirit that is trying to bring you down and bask in God's presence where you can find peace.
Another reason could be that the excitement from being in a big city could be overwhelming for you. When you get back home, your senses aren't being overloaded with endorphins and you feel less excited, thus depressed.

you are discouraged. That is not the same as depression. It is normal when people do not listen to a message you want so bad for them to hear.
It is wonderful of you to do this. However 'different strokes for different folks'
Jesus doesn't expect you to witness to others and your own expense. You should seek Pastoral counseling about getting out of the biz. Serioulsy, that is why I hardly ever spend time here because I get so discouraged so easy. Every person is not meant to go into missions which is what handing out tracts is.

I hear what you are saying. I sometimes get that way too after I go to an extraordinary place nad then go back home to my boring life again. I think it is because you are a traveler. You like and enjoy new and different places and when you come back, you are going back to you daily routined life. Don't worry, you just like to be in different places. Just ask God to help you with your depression after you travel. Just count the blessings in your life and smile.

People get depressed because of the way they think. Thinking causes all our emotions. Read the book "Feeling Good" by David Burns and use the simple exercises he has in there and you will feel much better. If your depression persists, seek out a CBT therapist. (Cognitive Behaviour).

First, STOP Giving Out Religious Leaflets.
Having people yell at you is one reason you get depressed.
Second, when you walk around, you are exercising, exercise makes you feel better. So you walk around the big city, your chemicals in your brain go UP, and you feel better.
Do daily aerobics and you will no longer be depressed.

Why is irrelevent. You are depressed, so do something about it. Walking and exercising...studies show people who exercise have less depression...faith...studies show those who have faith live happier lives...thankfulness...change your perspective...live a full life whereever you are. I know many people who are depressed living in the city...is it the city...no...how you live your life...if you still suffer from depression see someone to get medication and see a good CBT therapist.

If someone lives with you or you live in the house with someone it could be coming through them and not just the small town.
