500 songs in a gig means each song is about 2 minutes. I doubt your songs are 2 minutes. It depends how long they are and how high the quality is. With the average song being 4 minutes its 250 songs in a gig. You can lower the quality and get about 300 in there.

lets clarify .... about 500 songs at 128kb/s mp3s' .... larger songs say, at 320kb/s will fit less.
