There are a lot of elderly people that think that way, it was how they were raised, and you won't change them. Try to stay away from those subjects, there are plenty of things to laugh. Ask him about his childhood, going to school, holidays, favorite things, you are lucky to have the chance to get to know him. Enjoy!

thats what they were lead to believe in their day...some think it still stands in this day and age....to him it may be a joke...now theres laws...old people never change they are set in their ways, just politely tell him that it something you dont like to laugh about and could you change the subject....if he continues....leave the room, but do point out to him that you are not racist and that racism is not something to be laughed about nor is sexism, tell him you have morals, let him know, maybe he'll stop these jokes
