You should look into what is going on in Darfur and the Congo as we speak (type).
I suggest looking at Amnesty International's website -
http://www.amnestyusa.org
and joining!
It will keep you informed and they are hella cool!

Rwanda was a masacer of over a million people. All hacked to death by machetes in a little over 6 months. The difference between a Tutsi and a Hutu was how many head of cattle you were owner of . They were the same race and religion, but came from different walks of life. Kind of like the rich and the poor and it was the rich killing the poor. It was another example of the United Nations failing to prevent a genocide.
if you want to read more on the subject. Go get the book by Canadian General Romeo Dallair It is called " I shook the hand of the devil "
Gen Dallair was the UN commander over there during the worst part of it. He still struggles with the fact that he didn't defy the United Nations, and do something beyond his mandate. A good man who was caught up in the worst of what humanity has to offer. .He suffers gravely from post traumatic stress disorder and has tried taking his own life on a number of occasions. All due to the guilt he feels over what happened. I feel he is a true Canadian, A man of compassion who's hands were tied by the UN

EVERYTHING WAS KNOWN. Governements knew what was going on. After the fact the media got involved. They showed the skulls and everybody here knew there had been a genocide.
But Governemtns knew and anybody who paid attention to Africa knew.
Unfortunately, journalists don't hang out in Africa en masse the way they do in places like Israel. So when something happens in the West Bank, like Israel trying to destroy a bomb making factory in someone's basement, the world knows about it immediately because Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are hubs that are safe to hang out in and reporters just take a break from their coffee and sushi and go to where the crime scene is to vilify Israel to the Western world.
Meanwhile, things like genocide in Rwanda occur and not even a peep is heard.
Do you know what has been going on in Darfur?
Are you aware that there are gas chambers in North Korea?
Do you know what China does to its political prisoners?
There are ways to get information outside of mainstream media. Look up NGOs like Simon Weisenthal Center for Tolerance or watchdog organizations that watch the media and you will get the real stories of what CNN is too commercialized to tell us.

It wasn't all that long ago. The Hutus and Tutsis were chopping each other up with machetes. Hundreds of thousands of people died. They of course didn't show much of it on the news and stuff, our TV news is not going to show you the horrors happening in the world. Hotel Rwanda gives you a good idea of what went on, without being too graphic.

Did you know that the tribe that was chased out of Rwanda then ran to the Congo and for the last couple of years has continued its genocide and rape of the women and children in that country to the tune of triple the numbers in Rwanda?

It was on the news, but no one paid it much attention. I don't think there's really anything of commercial value in Rwanda, which is why no one paid much attention. Still, something like 400,000 people died when the hutus and tutsis clashed, it's really sad that something like that could happen in the modern world, but it probably won't be the last time it happens, either.

The reason it was downplayed is because the US did not want to get involved in Rwanda and lose more troops like what happened in Somalia. For a really good book on the genocide, check out this,

i do not quite do not ignore that a lot about the Rwanda Genocide yet what i understand is: we received't pass operating each and every time yet another us of a has issues, we've our personal issues and our personal human beings to guard and help. in the journey that they were threating us or an abassidor it really is after we necessary to step in, we shouldn't risking the lives of our personal militia for something it really is none of our business enterprise.

The normal media (CNN, FOX, BBC, ABC, sheet and c), don't mention things like this. Another Rwanda is happening right now and maybe people don't know: It's DARFUR. George Clooney is fighting to stop the DARFUR genocide right now.
Please search on google for DARFUR and spread the news!!!
You want to hear the truth?
ALTERNATIVE RADIO. (Search on google)
CIUT (University of Toronto comunity radio station): you have to listen to "The Taylor Report" or "Alternative Radio".
Read authors like George Galloway( a British MP against the empire).
Or search for "genocide" on google. There is always a new one.....

I heard about it when was happening in 1994. I recently met one of the survivors. Her story was truly sad--she lost her entire family--but she is a brilliant, remarkable woman. If you are watching the events that are unfolding in Darfur today, you see part of what happened in Rwanda twelve years ago. Nicholas Kristof writes frequent articles about Darful in the New York Times. It's fascinating to read.

Your reaction is common for people who see that movie. It is good that you became aware, albeit so late. However as the events were unfolding they were covered in the news quite widely. Even if you just included the BBC in your daily news mix there is no way you could have missed it.
The strange thing is that a very similar thing is going on in Africa again today and yet most people don't even recognize it is going on.
