Well you can't wear black, that's for sure but you don't want to go brown because then it would look like you were matching too much. When I was in college, I chose this fanastic red dress and my boyfriend saw it before he went shopping. He could have definitely gone black but chose this awesome brown suit with a tan shirt and a red tie that matched my dress. We stood out just because we looked so good yet different than everyone else. In your case, I would take it as the same opportunity. It is definitely a little trickier for you because apart from black, guys don't have the same color range as girls. If you don't mind matching, (and matching it completely fine, celebrity couples do it all the time and if they do it right it's fabulous) but the brown needs to be the exact same shade and even then ... hmmmm ... it might be too brown. Let's see ... damn, this is hard, I see why you asked, any way she will change her dress. I think it would be good if you asked her because that will show her that you care about how you look without being metrosexual or anything and girls (at least usually) love to dress up their guy. It might look really cool if you had the same suit as the one of described earlier that my boyfriend wore as long as the browns complimented eachother. And if you wore a red tie, she could wear red lipstick and maybe you could splurge for some great red jewerly for her. Rubies aren't too expensive and there are always substitutes for the jewel. I was going to say wear a white tux but I don't know what you color you should wear in terms of shirt and tie. Tan would work but it's always hard to find a flattering shade of tan. Oh! If her dress is dark brown you could go with a lighter shade of brown and then pull it all together with matching accessories (i.e. jewelery, shoes, tie.) And honestly, if worse comes to worse, it won't be bad if you decide to go with black because it's easiest. People don't think black and brown go together but they definitely can. I don't know where these fashion rules come from. However, you have the opportunity to really do something different and as long as it doesn't look too '70s or too cheesy, the two of you could be the most eye catching couple at the party! I love that you care because guys should care about how they look and how they will be perceived next to their significant other. I don't think my answer helped at all but good luck and provide an update!
