Make sure they are both spayed/neutered first of all. You have to confine one to an area in the house to allow each to get used to each other. Otherwise, if you see them start to fight, use a spray bottle of water. That'll stop the fight cold.

It depends on many factors. Are they spayed and neutered? What is the age of the cats? Is the fighting violent or more noise and chasing each other?
If they are "fixed" it likely is they are getting used to each other. Cats are singular animals and generally do not like to be around other cats. They also get very jealous of the time spent with their owners.
Older cats an especially male cats will try and dominate the other cat. If he is not fixed, chances are that he will begin to spray, which is a foul smelling urine they will spray on anything in sight.
Pay attention to what they are doing and you'll figure it out, if not, call your vet.

Are they FIGHTING fighting or play fighting? There IS a difference. It may not look like there is, but believe me....if they were fighting to hurt each other, you'd KNOW it.
Our male and female are constantly wrestling and biting at each other. But they NEVER do each other harm....they're playing.
If it's obvious your cats aren't playing, then you're going to have to make sure you follow what was already stated; make sure they're both fixed, separate them for a little while, with only supervised interaction, and squirt them with water if they start to fight.

you should make sure both are spayed and nuetered or else you will have treitoral issues, also if you let them just slowly go near each other for 5 min then the next week do it 10 min and so on be there that way you can let them used to each other.

I think you will see a big difference if you get them neutered (fixed). They will be more compatible then.
