Its not a true suffix as the original word was alcoholic, the aholic being part of the root word but of course saying workic would not of carried the required meaning. Workaholic with all the other words infers addiction from the original word The "suffix" aholic can be added to a number of words although I think verbs like shop, sleep, spend etc work best. Chocolate and chocaholic is one of the few nouns that works for me

It denotes addiction and can be attributed to many words but not always correctly!
Alcoholic, Shopaholic & spendaholic.
The other suffix that depicts addiction is 'maniac'
